There used to be a day when Microsoft was Apples big rival. That day has long passed - Apple have now officially established that they're WAY cooler (you may have seen the TV ads :laugh2:)

However, secretly another little company has been growing in popularity, and I think intend to rule to world one day! Here's their latest offering:

Nothing to see here, move along. And not to spoil it for everyone else, but google is a search engine basically making tons of money off ad revenue. They are no threat to anyone computer company at least not for a long, long, long time.

I highly doubt Google is trying to compete with Apple or Microsoft. Internet is their thing. I doubt they are going to one day start coming out with monitors and computers and home theatre related stuff.

Google is a software company. They have lots and lots of very talented programmars. For them to venture into the phone OS market isn't that crazy of a notion. They aren't getting into hardware manufacturing like MS and Apple, they are looking to find a partner to serve as a host to their mobile OS.

Will it compete with the iPhone if it ever comes to market? Doubtful. Not at $100. Sadly, there's nothing free in this world and as such you get what you pay for.

So true. NO phone can compete with the iPhone if it is priced at only $100.00. It's simply two different ballparks.

It seems like the "gPhone" will have its perks, like GPS and a touchscreen, and I think free VoIP through gtalk, as the article mentioned, would be very neat.

Compete with iPhone? Apples and oranges (or googles if you prefer).

I think the iPhone is safe for a while. No other phone comes remotely close.
You need to do some research before making blanket statements like that. The mythical gPhohe might not come close but the neo certainly does. The ONLY tjing the iPhone has better than the neo is the multi touch and 8 gb memory. The neo has a mini sd slot though, whixh at present can store as much as 4gb.

The neo also will have gps. It has a sharper screen. Its unlocked. Built on Linux and developers have complete access to not just Linux, but also the hardware. The neo is the first FULL open source phone. And when it hits the market in a couple of months it will only cost $450.

Theres no reason for Apple to worry, but if Sony releases their Ericsson PSP phone, I'm definitely going to switch over. The thought of a fully hacked PSP phone sounds like too much fun in your pocket.

Oh, and @OP, those Apple vs PC commercials are getting old. Apple's mud slinging was cute the first time around, but the campaign is tired now and it really makes things apparent: Without Microsoft, Apple wouldn't be who it is today. Which is why I'm vexed at the campaign, because without MS' cash infusion some years back Apple may not be where it is today, so why bite the hand that feeds you? Oh wait, this is Steve Jobs' company and he's got a good track record of throwing people away when they don't see things his way LoL!

HWhat? It's the other way around. I think it's well known that M$ ripped off the windows idea (GUI) from Apple.

If it weren't for Apple, Microsoft wouldn't be what it is today.

Microsoft took market share AWAY from Apple. Had $Bill Gates not fanagled his OS onto new PCs, Apple would have been even more popular than it has been.

Besides Apple began as computer company. Microsoft began as a software company. They've been independent for most of their lives.

Likewise, Google is an internet company. Different market.
