Does mail download your archived Gmail?

My iPhone always shows that I have 50 new emails. Even if my inbox is empty, it picks up mail from my archives. I have gmail POP set to only show emails from today on, but it doesn't seem to be working. Mail still pulls up my archived and read older mail.

Anyone else having this problem?

I had this same problem last week and after a call to Apple I had the problem fixed. Gmail apparently has a feature called "use recent mode" which from my understanding forwards a copy of every email even in your archive. For me It was trying to send my iPhone 3 million+ archived emails.

Anyways to fix this problem go to your gmail account in settings and to advanced and turn off use recent mode. This will solve your problems....good luck.

Another option is to go into your Gmail settings and change POP to only work for messages from now on and not everything.

I am having the same problem, even after fooling around with the POP settings and 'recent' setting.

My iPhone is still picking up archived mail and throwing it into my inbox.

Also, is anyone else having pieces of gmail that they send out showing up in their inboxes? This is getting to be annoying.

Like I said in the original post, I had this set but it didn't change anything. POP was still active for older emails. At the bottom of my list of 50 it even asked me if it should keep downloading any more of the 2.4 million emails in my archives.

The outgoing mail showing up in your inbox is happening to everyone. There are a few workarounds for it but none of them perfect. Hopefully either Apple or Google fixes this soon.

Hi everyone. I'm having this same problem re: showing 50 new messages all the time. I got my phone yesterday. I cannot find the "USE RECENT MODE" function, and I've been in every advanced settings area I can find. Is it gone now? I know these posts are from a year ago.

The thing is, my mom got an iPhone yesterday too and she has hers working perfectly where it shows a new message indicator bubble every time she gets an email, not constantly showing 50 like mine is.

What am I doing wrong? Thanks.
