Echo

My headset gave the caller to my iPhone a very bad echo. So bad I stopped using it. I went into Apple and swapped it out, echo stopped. I have read others online had same issue and once they swap headset it goes away. I never heard the echo but my friends said it was so bad they hung up all the time

ok so i went to the genius bar and they gave me b.s. about the network and that its the problem causing the echoing. then he noticed i had the bestskinever guard and he said that its most likely that too because part of the guard is covering the antenna. so honestly im still not sure whats causin it. but ill have to do my own problem solving. to be continued...

I've had a problem with echoing while using the speakerphone, but I assume that had to do with the proximity of the speaker and the mic. Anyone else have this issue?

Where is the antenna area?

When I talk to a specific person, they always hear themselves echoing, no matter how I call (either speaker phone, regular, or ear buds) must be an iPhone thing or ATT thing.

I get the echoing a lot also. I posted this on howardforums.com and it seems it quite an issue. You can go over there and look at some of the responses.

My fiancee says that no matter what source she calls or receives the call from she hears herself. All the while I sound fine and so does she while I'm on my iPhone. But she says it happens quite often.

Someone did mention turning down the volume while your on the call with the echoing. I did turn it down and I haven't heard her complain about the echoing since.

My gf says that when we talk she hears an echo and it drives her crazy.

She always says 'call me on another phone" and hangs up on me. Makes me a little upset because I just spent $600 on this phone and I cant even have a normal conversation on it?

I had the echo on my headset too.. but it was because my vol was set to max. I just turned it down 2 or 3 clicks and the echo was gone.

Oh man, the echo has been driving me nuts too! Well, not me...just people I'm talking to on the other end of the conversation. It gets so bad that they literally can't hear themselves think, and they tell me they have to hang up.

I swapped out my iPhone over this, and thought it was a hardware problem unique to that particular iPhone. The new iPhone was working fine, but within a few days: echo problem again.

The occurs in a very random fashion. The great majority of the time, there is no problem at all. But occasionally the caller on the other end will complain bitterly about the echo - and that's IF I know them...there have been times when a stranger or businesss associate is on the other end, and they didn't complain out of politeness, and I found out later how annoying the echo was to them. THat sucks.

For a while, I could make the echo somewhat less by pressing the iPhone hard against my ear to sort of "seal" the earphone, and callers DID say the echo got less. This makes me think that the echo issue is an iPhone design problem, NOT an ATT network problem. Plus, I used the Blackjack on ATT for a year and NEVER had an echo complaint.

I have my volume turned up to max, because I find the volume on the iPHone just barely adequate (here's hoping it gets fixed with an update!). However, I have found that by pressing the earphone hard against my ear to "seal" it, it reduces ambient noise and amplifies the volume (this was also pointed out my TinMan in an earlier post). I think I'll try turning down the volume a notch or two as suggested above, and see if that helps.

I thought it was the speakerphone, but it looks like it is more random than that. Today when I was on it, no echo for the other party. I hope it doesn't happen often because I have been told it is very annoying.

I am using the phone without a case. Should that make a difference?

The guys at the genius bar are mostly right. The echo is usually cause by thr network. I have noticed the echo on other peoples phones for awhile now. I believe it has to do with the connections of the two phones not just the one, as other have said they have it some times but not all the time.

For those who don't know, and the person who asked, the antennas are beneath the black plastic on the back as all aluminum would inhibit signal strength.

I've been reading up on this issue a lot, and I had my firsthand experience a few days ago on the phone with my g/f... My heart dropped and I died a little inside.

I really hope they can fix it via software... I have faith in the mighty Apple!

Well we all hope that all questions get answered but for now what im going to do is take the film off the back and cut it so that it doesn't interfere with the antenna. hopefully that will resolve the issue.
