Don't trust those "protective" cases...

Just a warning, people: At Apple's recommendation, I purchased the InCase Molded Rubber "Protector" (as InCase calls it) and thought, I'll say it again: THOUGHT all was well.

Last night I removed the InCase skin to see how things looked.

The bottom portion of the chrome on my iPhone was scratched to smithereens. I also had scratches on the left, right and top of the chrome, though not as badly.

I had heard of this problem occurring with some of the clear hard cases, but had not heard of it happening with the skin sleeves.

Apple exchanged the phone for me, thankfully, and now I'll be putting on a BodyGuardz skin. After that, I may use another skin to protect it in case of a drop. I won't be worried this time, because of the BodyGuardsz skin. But left by themselves, these skins really ruin the chrome, which is terribly ironic since they are supposed to protect the phone from scratches.

Don't trust these cases.

thats why the only protection i have on my iPhone is the icrystal static cling
its the best, i don't know what the bodyguarz skin is, but the static cling i bought in the Apple store saved me a lot of troubles of gettin finger prints and damages in my pocket

Yes, but ultimately that won't protect any part of your phone except the screen. The chrome bezel is the most vulnerable part of the phone.

Without some kind of protection, it will get scratched, and badly scratched at that, at some point.

Incase rubber scratches iPhone ?

Sorry to hear about your case problems! I purchased an incase yesterday and upon reading your post, took mine off. Everything looks ok. I wonder if something other than dust got under the case?

Damn so the incase actually scratches the phone? What a sweet "feature"!. I just got one. I guess I don't care, since I will never look at what is under the case, ever. Still sucks though.

I just use the The Rivet Clip System
I've used the Rivet for years, but I don't think the back of the iPhone has enough reinforcement to sustain the pin. Let us know if you encounter any deformation.

So far very good. I have had it on about 10 days and it's holding up real well.I thought the same thing, but I have used it on a few other phones. So what the heck will give it a try. Enjoy your iPhones everybody!

I put my phone in my pocket and it gets a lot of lint on it because of that. I think what is happening, as with other cases, is that the lint (or whatever) gets in between the chrome and the case and acts like sandpaper.

I took my wife's off tonight (she has the same case) and her chrome is pristine. BUT, she keeps it in her purse, lessening the chances of the lint problem that I seem to face.

So, anyway, I don't plan to start carrying a purse, so I sure hope that the BodyGuardz solves the problem.

We shall see.

BUT, kudos to Apple for the exchange. It really wasn't their problem. They did recommend that case, but other than that, it had nothing to do with them. They've got great service; I'll say that for them.

Incase Rubber sleeve scratches the chrome

I was using the Incase Rubber case-sleeve and it scratched the bottom chrome of my iPhone. Luckily I later discovered that the iPhone was defective (it had problems when doing a reset. Most of the times it will not reset and freezed) so I got a replacement and returnded the case for Incase leather one and it works great. Beware of the Incase rubber case.

This is what the Rivet did to my old phone, but keep in mind this was over about 4 years.

I had a silicone cover on from ebay for 4 days, when i took it out, i saw the black powder from the cover stuck to the body, had to use the Apple cleaner to get rid of it

How bad was the damage exactly? I use the incase rubber case too and I have a couple of things on the silver part of the phone.

How did you go about an exchange?

You people that are exchanging your phones, at Apples expense, because of tiny scratches on the chrome trim should be ashamed. It's absolutely ridiculous.

Live with your purchase with the understanding that it's not going to be perfect forever.

Incredible. :(

I have the incase rubber case, so I guess it is grinding the crap out of my phone, but since I will always have a case on there (mostly so I don't drop it with my clumsy ass meat hooks), I don't care. But, I can understand people getting annoyed when a case sold at the Apple store has a sandpaper feature and does the exact opposite of what it is supposed to do.

I love my incase rubber case! Not one scratch on the bottom crome.

I keep a lens cleaner cloth behind the phone so if it ever needs heavy cleaning i can take the case off and have access to the cloth

I love this case to much to give it up... So in the off chance that it may scratch the phone I also bought the full body skin from bestskinsever.com

So i spend more on my case.... So what i mean i spent 600 on a phone whats another 9 bucks
