Drop-Proof Case/Skin. Help please.

My iPhone has been naked since the day of release. However, I have made up my mind that I would like to get a case. I keep my iPhone in my pocket when going places so I didn't want to put a big bulky case on it.

My first thoughts were to get the incase, but seeing a recent photo on flikr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/ratio/822187194/ and reading about the same scratch problems of the forums, it's hard to choose the incase.

My next option would be the bodyguardz skin. However, I do not know how this type of protection would protect my phone from 3-4 foot drops. Does anyone have any experience dropping their phone with any of the current skins out? Not sure if it would really protect my phone from drops rather than scratches from being in my pocket, etc.

If anyone has any personal "iPhone fumble" stories and you have a skin, I'd like to hear how your phone held up. Or maybe we could get a physicist in here to explain the science behind gravity, iPhones, and see-through sticky plastic. Anyways, tips appreciated.

Wow that was very graphic:mad:. I have the Incase on my iPhone and it seems to be ok. I don’t know what that guy did to make it scratch that badly.

Sorry, I should have put a warning of some kind that the picture was not for the faint of heart. Anyways, one of my concerns was that maybe that particular incase user took his case on and off a lot causing the case to stretch and hence allow more dust / particles to get in.

How long have you had your incase burniksapwet? Have you taken it off ever? Thanks in advance, if you come back that is.

Wait for the iskin revo... it's rumored to be going on sale on the 22nd. iSkin made the best case case for the ipod video.

I have only taken it out once because I know that rubber can easily be stretched out. That’s why I think my iPhone is still ok. But since I saw that this rubber case can do so much damage I'm actually agreeing with what Farani said and might get the iskin revo instead. I was hoping the same thing and it looks like they only have red, blue, and yellow. Personally, I don't think I will be able to deal with the looks even though it looks to be the best protection aside from wrapping a pillow around my iPhone. Might have to go with the incase + bodyguardz. gogo 60 dollar case.

Does bodyguardz protect the chrome lining on the phone? I have the crystal film set that they sell at the Apple store and they're great. Thing is that it doesn’t protect the chrome lining on the phone.

From what I have read, it does. I'll try and find the thread that talked about this very issue.

Says that the bodyguardz skin protects the chrome bezel as much as it can. Not sure what that means, but he says it more that the other skins out there.

I don't think that statement is very accurate in terms of the bodyguardz protecting the chrome lining of the phone. Watch this installation video
and it seems that is just covering the screen part of it and just a little bit on the side. But it doesn’t seem to be protecting the chrome edge of it. I might be wrong though.

I don't know about BodyGuardz, but BestSkinsEver does cover the chrome. I love the fit of the BestSkinsEver, but it seems to be collecting an awful lot of fuzz while in my pocket (see this thread). I hope the "fuzz collecting" subsides.

I just wish there were some more in depth reviews on how well any phone is protected from 3-4 foot drops by the bodyguardz skin, because this is the reason I wanted to get a case in the first place. If I can find a few positive user opinions of the dropping matter, I'll pull the trigger.

It will protect your phone externally but you can never tell what will happen to it internally. That’s why I wanted to use the incase because if it ever fall the rubber can and will absorb the fall.
