EDGE is not really bad

I have been testing the browsing speed through EDGE and I have a feeling that for normal browsing its really not bad. What do you think?

Yes, it is not as fast as wifi at home... but it is not like the slow crucifixion as suggested by so many. I am very happy with it.

Ya EDGE is perfectly acceptable for me. Is it true that if the iPhone was 3G compatible then the battery life would suffer because of it?

yeah thats what I have as well heard. Until n unless u browse a lot on your iPhone I don't see a need for the 3G. Thats my opinion!

Really? For me it's hit or miss. Sometimes it's ok, sometimes I get 9kb/s... that's right 9!

In Central Texas town where I am , it is great, bets the Wi-Fi in my house, but when I go to Houston, not as good. I am thinking the number of people using it may have something to do with it.

damn! thats freakin crazy. guess it depends on the signal as well. I have a understanding that the towers for regular network and EDGE are not the same.

Agreed. For doing basic things it isn't that bad. Like jut going to a website and checking something. I've been using the wifi today and its significantly faster. This is the first experience getting the full use of this phone because I'm on vacation and its pretty incredible. Ive been using the free wifi from the hotel im staying at and ive been off and on the internet all day and it is really unbelievable what u can do on this thing.

I average about 180 kb/s on EDGE. I use EDGE at work for browsing on my free time, and it actually ain't too shabby.

Yes. That is correct

Who is getting 180 kb/s? That's crazy! I'd love to get that kind of speed. The most I've gotten is 47 kb/s on EDGE...

Edge network is the slowest service for cell phones... It is the same speed as dial up, and can be a lot faster if ATT explored it more!
