Location, location, location

wow, over 100 here for Apple & 70 for ATT! We've got police & security guards at Menlo Park NJ!
Congrats to this poster who not only references general location in the tag but also mentions the specific LOCATION of where they are.

How else is posting here useful otherwise, re: I'm sitting here at the Apple Store and there are 40 people ahead of me......

7 am now in 3G-less Woodland, CA. There are probably a little more than 30 people in line here now. Employees have been arriving for about half an hour. The store manager just came out and handed out 8 oz bottles of water to everyone in line. It looks like there will be plenty of people working, but sounds like maybe they don't have a huge stock. One employee mentioned possibly getting more from a store in Davis and another said, "They'll be gone quickly," when asked by someone near the end of the line about supply.

They do all have cute iPhone 3G t-shirts on though... I want one.

Oh I know! The first employee who came to the store this morning was carrying like ten of those. I was like, "Can I get one of those for being the first in line?" o.O

ah the people of the Island.....

I am at Roosevelt Field in LI. Lines are worse than last year. About 150 people in front of me.
I hope that is an Apple Store. But you are in for a rough ride. Reports of early problems with the AT&T software are killing folks. The lines are not moving well and this is an unfortunate byproduct of the forced in-store activations.

Having said that, I hope our noble "Sire Administrator" fares well and scores a 3G.

Heard the local AT&T store here in Hoboken, NJ is down to just white 16GBs and 40 people in line late this morning (11:00 am). That tells me people will be left with nothing there, but at least not like last time when I waited a couple of hours and then two people away they said they only had 4GB.

Not gonna do that. Wouldn't be prudent.

Also heard about a poor guy, first in the Paramus, NJ Apple Store and he got his account bricked by AT&Ts software. He was really upset and understandable as he was waiting hours in the AM.

This is going to be a long day. But I have NYC to bail me out. And I will do so just as soon as I figure out which place to hit. :laugh2:

Well, I got mine, but it was kind of close. There were three or four people behind me before the supposed cut-off. Whew.

Too bad I can't activate it.

Same story here. I'm guesing they only had about 20 phones at my store (no wonder they didn't want to disclose any information about their stock!). I was 9th in line and they ran out while I was still in the store. They did GENEROUSLY offer to ORDER phones for those people who couldn't pick one up today.

Anyway, at least I got what I wanted (16gig white; it's GORGEOUS), but it would be nice if I could access iTunes to finish activating it so I could, you know, USE it. :)

Some info for NYC.

After not being able to get the 16GB with the local AT&T, I debated between Paramus Garden State Plaza and Short Hills Mall.

Decided to go to Short Hills Mall. Got there just before 10 am. Was in the first twenty people! They had their act together speaking to people in line ahead of time.

Was in and out with a 16GB white in less than hour!

Certainly beats the 5th Avenue scene where the Apple Store lines were said to be heading to a 7am start with system issues and 400 people in line. I said no thanks.

So I got real lucky. If any folks are able, go to the Short Hills Mall relatively early and you will be just happy you did.

I was ecstatic to get through the maze this year. Activation in store changed the whole ball game and made it a real challenge.

I feel like a putz--I debated going to SHM or GSP (I live about the same distance from both). Ended up going to GSP, got there at 10:15, and waited online for 2.5 hours. I guess I chose poorly. heh

Hey don't feel bad, I had my GPS all cranked up to go to GSP too and got this little voice saying no, go to Short Hills Mall. I was going to ignore it but then said okay already. I shut the GPS off and headed off to Short Hills.

Oh man I could barely contain my excitement. After seeing the insanity at the flagship on 5th Avenue with 400 people in line at 1:00 AM and tons of other people just milling around like lost zombies, I was in ecstasy.

And I have this little gift I'm trying to "listen" to more. ;)
