Mine did the same last night, after being fully set-up, I received the email saying that the Activation was complete although when I went to the phone it said AT&T is still completing activation. I had NO Service on the phone. After a couple of hours, I checked again and it said AT&T Activation completeon the phone with full EDGE service.
It seems to m that there are some many folks trying to activate at one time that it is causing a delay.
