When you get your iPhone and have a chance, go to the following websites and time how long it takes you from the time you click enter until the time the page is FULLY loaded:

-google.com
-nytimes.com
-espn.com
-everythingiPhone.com

4 popular websites all with different levels of content.
Once we get several responses, I will take the average times and post it at the top of this thread so everyone has a general sense of the speed of edge, unbiased, from us, not using stupid dslreports or whatever. I don't care what bandwith measuring websites say, I care how long it takes to open popular webpages that we all frequent.

note: observe the EDGE test in the thread title, please do not give me WIFI times. We all know what WIFI can do. ALso please limit the tests to your iPhone.

I dunno, it might be useful in retaining a balance between fanboyism and reality. As long as he/she sticks to bitching about valid points, and not just making stuff up. Have to tone down the swearing to appear a little more sound of mind though. Right now just sounds angry.

Please don't quote idiots like this. It's not a matter of if, but when they get their posts removed. The user has been banned - IP address noted, banned and informed of activities.

There seems to be an influx of Apple bashers. I'm going back and forth from my spot in the line to in front of the Apple Store. with their wifi and my powerbook, I'm removing posts and banning as i see them. It's easy wipe them out, but more diificult when they are quoted since those quotes remain. I'll be working on cleaning that stuff up tonight.

I just found this...

"The iPhone doesn't run on the fastest data networks available and when I typed www.msnbc.com, it took 30 seconds for the home page to fully load, pictures and all."

in an article where a reporter got to use one early.....it took 30 seconds to load the front page of MSNBC.com, i guess thats not that bad if he wasn't using wi-fi....

MSNBC has a pretty busy front page, its my homepage and there are tons of pictures and stuff all over the place...so i guess thats not a bad sign...

I didn't purchase one today because Im not completely sold on one yet, but I spent about 30 minutes in an Apple store playing with an iPhone. I turned wifi off to test out EDGE. I don't have any numbers, but I must say I was pretty impressed with the EDGE speeds. I went to cnn.com, amazon.com, google.com, allmusic.com, and watched a few youtube clips. The pages I tested (in particular allmusic.com) seemed to load faster than they do on my verizon motorola q. A simple site like google.com loaded very quickly.
Also, the google map widget thingy was very fast. Once a page loaded using EDGE, the zoom function was very quick, didn't take too much time to re-load for a "zoom," etc.
Hope this helps!
oh and Im in Nashville, TN.
