ok, so a reporter from houston posted on everythingiPhone today asking for angry Apple fans. since i lived in houston, i emailed with the guy but didn't really want to be on camera (you'll see why in the video). he went out and did a piece about the "iSlap in the face" before Jobs made his announcement today.

here's the link...

Congrats dude! That's really freaking cool. Hehe, you should have gone on camera, just not used your name.

And Chris, congrats to you! You can't get better press than that bro, no wonder the traffic is spiking like crazy. I hope all these visitors buy something in the everythingiPhone store. :D

Oh, and great report. The only thing, it appears he was wrong about the $100 in store credit being poo-poo'ed. It seems to have been a big hit.

Everyone is a winner here.

I think a significant sum of people are upset about the $100 credit. Have you been looking at the Apple forums for the iPhone? Its as active as yesterday Id say.

Not to go off topic, but I'd have to disagree with you. As the moderator of this particular forum, the last 24 hours were complete and utter mayhem here. Things settled down almost immediately after the open letter. Things are more active than usual, but on a whole people are happy with the $100. I know that I am...

Now, let's get back on topic. EIP in the news and that rocks!

Yes it calmed down some people of course. Those who don't like to be insulted kept on the good fight on places where its easier to do so. There was major major movement of threads on this forum. Thats bound to tire people out. Apple forums are better suited for getting the word out, not here.

Glad you liked the story guys... that last minute announcement from steve cost me another 30 minutes at work though... LOL. Could've been better.

To be honest... I'm pretty sure any surge in traffic has nothing to do with the story.

If anyone is in Houston and actually wants to see it on TV... watch FOX 26 Morning News tomorrow ... they may show some clips ... etc.

Thanks again for the help.

Despite the fact I don't post here very often, I do visit frequently and enjoy the info. I just don't have much info/time to contribute back.

still waiting, no credit

just to keep the story active, i still have not received a credit from Apple on my credit card. its been 36 hours. i have a paper and electronic receipt. it will be interesting to see if they decide to not credit me. i actually won't be upset though, i think the $100 credit is fair as well. i do feel somewhat justified in accepting the $200 since i had to spend another hour or so out of my day to get it done. will keep those who are interested (probably very few) posted.

I don't understand your post. Are you saying you've been insulted?

I'm guessing you prefer Apple's forums and that's perfectly fine. This sort of sounded like a stab at this site. BTW, it is the #1 unofficial iPhone site. We also had very few threads deleted when this story broke. If we did anything wrong, it was moving a few topics to Off Topic, but that was resolved. Additionally, within hours, the whole "movement" was quite organized.

Just a follow up to my post @ahaxton. Upon having my morning coffee, it's come to my attention that you started a "pirate leopard" campaign here at EIP. If you're having your morning coffee and wondering why you were banned, that's it. Totally unacceptable and puts this site at risk. This coupled with a few trolling posts were the reason for the decision.

very hard to argue that this isn't the best iPhone forum. i've checked many others out and this is hands down the best. the rearranging of the post yesterday was a little hard to figure out but if you're saavy enough to use the forum, then you would have probably figured it out.

chris, have you thought of starting one whole section on this issue and moving all threads to there? i mean its really the only issue under general discussion, making the discussion not very general. a consolidated area regarding this topic might also give this whole "movement" more voice (although i realize that's not what you're trying to do, and it also appears as if Apple has heard our voice).

The fight has been fought and we won. I'm satisfied. Actually, I shouldn't call it winning because that's not really accurate. I should say that collectively we made a lot of noise and our voices were heard. Now, that's a powerful thing. This site contributed heavily to that.

Threads were moved out of necessity because knuckleheads were posting new threads on the same topic over and over and in incorrect areas. From my vantage point, Chris was doing his best to streamline and keep the conversation flowing smoothly. Forget tiring people out. How tired do you think that makes our moderator? Damn man, get a clue!

This forum suits me just fine. If you feel that this site is less suited than the Apple forums for getting the word out why make noise here? Seems counterproductive for you.

okay I'm sorry... what the heck is a "pirate leopard campaign?"
Leopard is the next version of OSX that Apple is releasing. His "campaign" was to incite people to steal the software (i.e. not pay for it). This act is typically referred to as "pirating".
