It was bound to happen. I suck at keeping my phones nice and shiny. Last night I proved it. I bought the Incase Multifunction Sports Case because I like the design and figured it would do an adequate job of protecting the phone.

Up until last night it did. Anyways I was jogging and I was using the arm band. Upon crossing an intersection I felt the phone launch out of the case and to my horror i saw my phone spinning towards the sidewalk in front of me. After spending the kind of money we spent on our phones there is nothing more horrifying than watching your iPhone tumble through the air in slow motion headed for concrete. It took a couple short bounces and I began to cry. So I picked it up to inspect the damage and to my amazement the screen was untouched. Unfortunaley the backside didn't fare so well. The damage is not bad but definitely noticeable. The bottom black plastic sustained some moderate scuffing on the corners and the upper metal backing has some nice sized gouges in the corners as well, mostly around the camera but at least a tenth of an inch away from the lens. So I tested all the functions wondering what else was damaged and lo and behold the thing still works. Song picked up where I (or should I say the phone) left off. No other problems that I could notice. I am slightly surprised I mean I run 5 miles at about an 8 minute mile pace and I sped up to cross an intersection so this thing left the case at a pretty good speed, lol.

I think what happened was the velcro strap on top just started to wiggle loose because it's so thin and I don't think the velcro holds that well. Guess I'll have to start paying better attention to it when I run. I still can't believe the screen is not even slightly scratched. Talk about luck! So I didn't call in sick to work and I never once threw up (though I did get a little naucious). :laugh2:

Haha, no I didn't really cry. I just kinda shook my head and thought, "well, at least I don't have to worry about my first drop anymore." :D

Hey, at least I didn't drop it in the toilet.

So who else has dropped their phone pretty hard?

you can buy a new back for like 40$

http://www.ifixit.com/iphone-Parts

coming from one who has messed up MANY a nice phone... there are ALWAYS OEM parts to replace the ones you scratch up dropping your phone... most of mine are caused by work or pure stupidity while drunking... such as tossing nextel many times in arguments with people on the phone LOL I'm much more conscious of the iPhone because unlike the nextels, and tmobile phones i have had i actually like it... LOL

honestly, i'd call up incase and tell them what happened. perhaps you can make them pay for the damages ...if you want. I'd have to b/c i can't afford a new backplate for my phone...my phone has put me into dept. well worth it though.

ouchies...seriously. i bought the incase rubber case...the ones they sell at the Apple store. LOVE IT, hate the color choice though. I wanted pink, red was too strong of a color, so I went with basic black.

anyhoot, I've dropped my iPhone, it was in the incase thank goodness. if it hadn't i'd be screwed. I drop everything, my boyfriend calls me butterfingers. I can only catch a ball or keys everything else slips right through. WELL... after my phone took a stumble (watching it fall in slow motion as well) i got back into the car, turned on the interior lights to see any damage.......yes, where the headphones plug in there is a VERY minor ding. don't know how it got there, it just did.

all is well though. =)

Try putting "egrips" on it, I've had them on all of my portable electronics and they kick ass. Like put the phone on the dashboard and drive the cross bronx at full speed and my ipod stays put. http://www.egrips.com/

ps: for those not from the ny area its one of the most awful pothole and bump tight twisty pieces of highway in the states

Getting out of my car the other day it was pouring here in South Jersey and my phone slipped out of my hand and banged onto the parking lot cement into a little tiny puddle (Not submerged or anything). I guess I made some kinda of sound like Ughhhhhhhhhhhhhh as it was falling. Everything kinda went silent and i snatched it up as if it was the hope diamond. After inspecting it and seeing absouloutly NO damage at all, the sounds around me began to fade in and I heard my girlfriend hysterically laughing. I was like what are you laughing at? She imitated the sound I made and we both had a pretty good laugh about it.

(The sound fading was of course a complete dramatization) lol

LOL I don't care who you are, that's funny right there! :)

My wife has had similar laughs at my expense... apparently making goofy noises when we are watching the slow-mo destruction of a beloved electronic device is pretty universal. Mine is the rapid inhalation which causes a really weird gasping sound.

Nothing beats the time my iPhone became airborne as I rode out of a minimart parking lot on my motorcycle.

Didn't realize it till I got into my garage at home. Took off my helmet and gloves, reached down for my iPhone... and it was gone! Good
gawd did I freak. I only had the iPhone for a few days at that point. Didn't know where it was or anything.

So I rode back to the place I hoped it would be at, the minimart, at lightning speed (I am lucky I didn't kill myself). Jumped off the bike and ran inside and the clerk had my iPhone. Someone witnessed it falling and returned it (may God bless them!).

Good news for me. After breaking my glass, the Apple Store sent off my iPhone & charged me $199. I got it back today. To my surprise, Apple sent me a replacement phone instead of repairing mine. The letter said "After thorough diagnostic testing, it has been determined that a replacement i Phone is necessary. Enclosed you will find the replacement iPhone." The next page said had service info stating that This is a covered repair. Service charges are the responsibility of Apple. I was DAYUM happy they covered the charge and I got a replacement phone. THX APPLE!

I've dropped my phone three or four times now. Good thing I bought the speck rubber cover for my phone, no scratches or any other external damage:cool:
