I just got off the phone with an attingular rep and i asked him did we actually have to walk in the store or do we have the option to buy it online and he was reluctant to tell me but he finally said that "you actually have to walk in the store and purchase the phone".

And just like everything else quoted from "Sales" associates at this time, none of this is written in stone, until at least the 29th.

Somebody has to put a end to this nonsense.
Ok you say that somebody has to put a end to this nonsense, all you had to say was yes we know that but it still has not been confirmed like the other person in this topic. So thank you for you ignorant comment.

If you look at the iPhone Keynote from January, which should be required viewing for anyone seriously interested in the iPhone, Jobs states that it will be sold from Apple stores, Cingular/AT&T stores and online via Apple.com and cingular.com/att.com/wireless.

i'm not going to lie... it does get a little cumbersome to read brand new threads (which shouldn't be started to begin with) re: information that is either highly speculative (please, no more my Apple/att rep told me this, that, or the other) or really old info (yes, iPhone is EDGE, not 3g. yes, it has a touch keyboard. no, you won't MMS) the list goes on!

I think the admin are maintaining a great site with great information. but with release date fast approaching and attention on this product (and the website) growing, i think a little more strict modding of the boards may be in order. i'm not telling you how to do your job...it's just an idea.

I was at an AT&T store yesterday about a phone. I casually mentioned the iPhone frenzie to the guy. He said "yeah, a lot of people asking about it." And the proceeded to tell me that he didn't know much and that they won't get any training / protocol until two days prior to the launch.

They can't go to all 1876 At&t stores in one day.

Probably better not to jump all over someone who's new to the group like that. We should be more welcoming to people and understand that they haven't been through all the threads of conversations that we have so far.

That said, I know everyone is frustrated with the long wait for this product. But there is light at the end of the tunnel.

> dang. Everybody made up while I was writing this. sorry. <

Here are my thoughts on a variety of topics discussed in this thread:
  • Yes, it is tiring to see new threads about old topics. This is the nature of the beast. As the forum gets popular, new members are going to be...well, new members. It would be extremely cumbersome to delete topics and/or merge into existing topics. Where I can, I have done this. At times, I've received PM's regarding topics and done the merge. With the launch coming June 29th, there is a lot going on here at EIP (server moves/software upgrades (one of which is happening today;)),new sections (customer reviews) and of course the daily news. All of which are aimed at making this the #1 community for iPhone users. Kabeyun, the only moderator, is on vacation until the 29th. This also limits our ability to manage things. As members, you can "welcome the member and then point him/her to an existing thread". This way, we don't continue an entirely new thread on an old topic.
  • Much of this is due to the great unknown. For as much as we know about the iPhone, there is a lot of information we don't know about "how to buy", "What are the plans?" etc. This is the primary reasons why folks join EIP. Once the phone is released, I'm thinking our forums here will take a different angle. You will have a lot of questions about how to use the iPhone. That being said, do I expect to see a question in June of 2008 about how to configure Mail for gmail. Most definitely and I'll direct them to the Official gMail for iPhone set up thread when it exists. :p On the 29th, we're all still newbies, but expect to see new users here everyday thereafter. With a little direction and some encouragement, new users become part of the knowledgebase. And so on and so on. In the end, you've got a very knowledgeable community - and one that is friendly, forgiving and responsive. That's my hope for EIP.
  • Finally, I'm open for suggestions. I'll open up a new topic in General Discussion and feel free to make suggestions. I'll do what I can to make this a better place for all parties.
Okay, I'm off the proverbial soap box.

Ok if you didn't care then why did you read the topic or read anything that I put and finally reply.
Probably because instead of putting a description in the description area (AKA Title) you put the vague "For Everyone That Wants To Know!"

Did Jobs say WHEN we will be able to buy online?
