I thought I might share some insight for those of us planning on cutting our contract with Verizon short. I found out that we can get out of our contract for free! Verizon has raised their rates on SMS by like 5 cents. This isn't much but because it is a increase we are to get out of our contract penalty free... here is the full story - http://www.engadget.com/2007/01/12/verizon-increases-sms-rates-customers-now-free-of-their-contr/3#comments
I had heard about this a while ago. Too bad I don't have Verizon.:(

that was months ago and since you would most likely have paid your bill 3 or 4 times since then (like I have) you won't be able to use that excuse...:(

doesn't matter how many times you have paid your bill.. They are legally obligated to let you out as long as you signed your contract before the rate increase.

I don't think so. I think they have a we can change rates without notice clause in their contracts.

In the contract it says that you have 60 days to file a complaint...
We're too late :(

Ahhh well - I am out of my contract with Verizon in Nov. I just need to figure out how to wait that long to get an iPhone.
Maybe 2nd gen will be out by that time? GPS, video capabilities...
ahhh dreams.

I have a friend who tried this exact loophole to get out of his Verizon contract back when they announced the rate change, and rather than let him out of his contract without penalty they told him that they would keep his text message rates at their old price. Neat solution for them, since he didn't use text messaging much and he had a long time (over a year) left on his current contract.

Plus, as others have mentioned, I think the time limit on this has now passed.
