Going on cruise, what to change on phone plan

I don't really need to call anyone while I'm gone but I would like to get & receive texts and get my email. What's the cheapest way to do this. I have the standard international roaming plan currently.

Email via wi-fi....no cost. Texts.....you'll need the international plan or it will cost you a ton. I go to Canada a lot and had to get the international plan. If you are texting via iMessage alone, then wi-fi is all you need but all people you text would have to be running iMessage. Not very practical.

Will the international plan I have work for texting or do I need something else? Also, if I change my call plan for a month, will I loose my unlimited data or does that only happen if I change the data plan?

That I don't know. I have had the unlimited data, unlimited text, no roaming international plan since day one.
