Got a few questions

Just recently bought a used iPhone 4, running ios 4.0.2 (1.59 baseband). Last night I jailbroke it (limerain) and unlocked it (ultrasnow). Both JB and Unlock work fine so far.

1: My mms isn't working. On my old 3GS (4.2.1) I was able to go into "cellular data network" and got it going, maybe it's the older ios but I don't even see that as an option.

2: I'd like to update to 4.3.3 and jb/unlock there, but ofcourse iTunes is saying 'not eligible for build...'. I've tried using tiny umbrella and editing host code or whatever..have no idea what I'm doing. Terminal, text edit and all of that...clueless. Is there one sure shot method?

3: Seems odd but Cydia has my SHSH at 4.3.5 (see attached pic) but I'm running 4.0.2.

Simply, I want to update to 4.3.3, have MMS, and find a way around the iTunes error...can anyone point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance.

If the iPhone was never Jailbroken before you purchased it, you will only be able to upgrade/restore to the current firmware (4.3.5) I'm afraid. There is an app in Cydia called Swirly mms which allows you to send mms but you must have the native mms turned off in settings for it to work.

How would I know whether or not it had been? Also, why would that determine whether or not I could upgrade to 4.3.3? Because even if it hadn't been JB before I got it, I JB it...I guess I'm not understanding how that works.

Nooooooo oooo oo...sigh. Yeah I was hoping that wasn't the case. How would that have happened? Is there anyway to undo this?

I don't have the hdr option on my camera, no mms. Can't assign individual SMS sounds...ridiculous.

Unfortunately there isn't. You can however jb 4.3.5 but it will be tethered. Which means you will have to connect to your mac/pc everytime you switch off or reboot.

Which phone are you referring to when you say no mms, hdr camera etc?

The previous owner didn't backup any of the previous 4.x SHSHs prior to the signing windows closing. It can be saved while a firmware is the current firmware, regardless if you actually have the firmware installed or not. The signing window closes when the next firmware version is released. 4.3.5 is the only one that can be saved right now.

Individual text tones is a 4.2 feature. HDR is a 4.1 feature. Since you're on 4.0.2, you install Grouptones in Cydia and an HDR app in the App Store.

I really don't understand why I have an iPhone 4 that's on 4.0.2. I upgraded from an old 3GS running 4.2.1, I just assumed some things about 4 that I prob shouldn't have. Oh well.

It doesn't matter what firmware the old phone was running. That doesn't transfer over to the new device. You can restore the settings, media and data from the 3GS on the iPhone 4, but the firmware is updated separately.

No I get it, my point was that I didn't expect to lose features with the iPhone 4 JB. I understand though that it's a firmware issue.

Speaking of which, is there a relatively easy solution to the MMS issue with 4.0.2? I've been looking but I keep finding dead ends.

The firmware is more than a year old, which is the only reason why you're lacking those features. Unlocking and using the phone on an unofficial carrier has its drawbacks.
