So my gps icon has been on the phone for several days now. It will not shut off unless I physically disable GPS. Turning GPS brings the icon back, and it doesn't go away. I have shut down EVERY background item, and even restarted the phone several times. What.. the... fcuk. Its made it so my battery dropped from 100% to 72% in the past 2 hours and I haven't even used the phone AT ALL.

I know there are claims of Apple tracking your every move, but this icon being there all the time is new to me... anyone know whats up?

I had this problem a month ago was a gps app that used location services. It had a bug. Deleted the app problem went away.
If u haven't recently installed a new app that uses location services try a hard reset. Holding the lock and home button together till u see the Apple logo.

I've had this happen - it was one app that somehow seemed to leave location services on even after I'd force-closed it. To identify which app it is, go to Settings/General/Location Services – the app that is currently using location services will have the little purple GPS active icon next to it. You can then switch location services off for that app or simply delete it from your iPhone if you no longer need it.

For me, it was Sony's Crackle app of all things - why an on-demand video app would need to know your location (aside from giving Sony marketing info to use) is beyond me but I switched location services off for it so that shouldn't happen again.
