The World Wide Web (WWW) was born on August 6, 1991, when the first web page was launched on the internet by Sir Tim Berners-Lee.

Factoids:

Domain names that now form the base of the web network, pre-date the first web site by six years.

The first commercial domain name, symbolics.com, was registered on March 15, 1985.

The phrase 'surfing the internet' was coined by author Jean Armour Polly in June 1992.

Archie was the first tool to search the internet.

In 2008, mobile access to the web exceeded desktop computer-based access for the first time.

According to worldwidewebsize.com, the web now contains of least 19.68 billion pages - more than three times the world's population.

Netscape was the browser with the lighthouse, right?

I remember how shockingly bad that was to use, especially on dial-up.

Oh wow.. Alta Vista and Netscape, I remember those days. Alta Vista was a good search engine, but Netscape sucked.

Some of you guys may have been too young to have used it in its early years, but Netscape was the best browser available in the mid 90s and its usage share was over 90%. I used it from '94-'97. Alta Vista was the best search engine at the time. Mosaic was the first graphical web browser.

I do. Especially really long and obnoxious ones that clearly point out how awesome and popular Netscape was in the mid '90s. ;)

Netscape was the browser to use back when most of you guys thought a good time was sittin' in front of the TV tube, watchin' Bugs Bunny and gnawing on your fudgesicle.

I mean, seriously, guys. How old were most of you when Netscape was the browser to use?

I ways preferred Netscape. Pretty much anything over IE.
I still love watching Bugs Bunny, the original ones, too :D
