It is not a problem. It was happening to me several times last night so I powered the phone completely off (hold down the sleep button until the "slide to power off" slider comes on and then slide to power it off). Start it back up normally and your problem will go away. I've used the phone ever since and it hasn't gone to the home screen one time since I rebooted it last night.

Try it; I think it'll help.:laugh2:
Hey thanks tiger, that worked perfectly for me

I had it go back to the home screen 5-10 times while surfing safari and crash twice where i needed to reset it. This all happened when I was having wifi issues with my parents network. I haven't' had any crashes or safari fails while using my iPhone.

Glad it did. It worked perfectly for me too. I still haven't had it go back to the home screen and I've been surfing, checking email, sending texts, and listening to iTunes all day. The complete rebooting will fix the problem. The important thing is to completely power it off. Most people just put it in sleep mode and lock the buttons. That doesn't completely reboot the phone.

If you don't know how read my first post in this thread. It'll work if you're having this problem.

if you hold down the home button and the sleep button until the Apple logo appears, that is resetting the phone. this is better than just powering it off and on. it keeps all your settings but is officially referred to as the reset/reboot.

Turning the phone completely off doesn't lose any settings.

My iPhone has done this about 5 times since I got it. I was only playing music once when it happened and the music paused.
It has happened 1 time but i don't care i love my iPhone soo very much!
I waited 10 hours in line and 22 for activation and i still love it.

I'm crazy about mine too. I don't care if it did cost $641 with the sales tax, it's worth every penny.

I look at it this way:

8 GB Nano - $200
Decent cell phone - $100
PDA - $200
2 MP digital camera - $150

Total = $650

Seems pretty fair to me.:)

This is an application crash.

Happens in Safari if you go to www.yahoo.com and click on "popular" in the "news" section

Happens on lots of other web sites too.

Video player crashes regularly.

Google maps crashes every once in a while -- try going to upper west side manhattan and searching for "ice cream" start clicking the entries and pow... main screen

Repeatable.

well i just had safari crash a bunch of times, followed by setting crashings followed by iPhone itself crashing followed by iPhone starting up with a connect to iTunes error message.

now i connect it to iTunes and told me to do a system restore and the system restore just said it failed.

safe to say safari/iPhone internet capabilities are a bit buggy. sms, email, safari, you tube network setting won't even work anymore.

they immediately go back to the home screen when i click them.

yikes!

ok my safari has crashed like five or six times on the last ten minutes... I've been surfing while on a call and it keeps going back to the home screen. Its getting pretty annoying. I hope this is part of iPhone update number 1.

That worked perfectly for me too. It was happening all the time Saturday night and then I powered it completely off and then back on again and it hasn't done it since.

so I had this exact same problem (not the PDF one, but the crashing) for the first 48 hrs of using the phone. I crashed apps probably 20-30 times at least.

as soon as I did a full reset (hold down the Home and top button until you see the Apple symbol), all of the crashes went away. i havn't had a single one now in 36 hrs or so.

I strongly recommend people try that if they're seeing application crashes...

I restarted mine and it cleared up the issue. I just hope it's fixed in the next update. It's bothering me. It does it about every 2 days.

I'm sure they will fix this in updates, soon enough.
I also hope they fix Safari for windows. I know it's a beta, but i've found several big bugs, so far.
Or, just non-functioning menu items.
