How about this for an add ...

Hello, I'm a zune (looking like a dork, and jamming out to his Zune), and I'm an iPhone.

Nice, what all can you do on that Zune ...

As he is talking about useless things, the cell phone in his pocket rings. He then fumbles around trying to get it out of his pocket, and eventually drops the Zune and his cell phone, ruining both of them.

The Apple guy then gets a call and starts talking just be clicking on his headphone switch.

I think it would make for a very compelling ad.

Clever premise, but I don't really think that the Zune and the iPhone are viewed as competitors. I mean, the Zune isn't a phone and comparing it to an iPhone really isn't fair.

Now, if iPhone was compared to another smart phone in a similar advertisement, it might make a bit more sense.

But Microsoft doesn't make a phone

I see your point, but I still think it would have broad appeal since Microsoft doesn't actually build a phone, and the Zune is such a big fat clunker.

Hey now...

Yeah the Zune is fat, and the wifi is useless, and there's no gapless playback or lossless support, and there's no HD support, and there's no updates...

But it's not as bad as all the Apple Fanboys like to make it out to be.

I love my Zune. And my iPhone.

How about this;

Im a Treo and Im an iPhone.

The treo is listening to music and taking phone calls just like the iPhone. Then the treo gets into a car, turns on Tom Tom Nav and starts driving around strange places without a worry. At the same time the iPhone gets into a car, loads google maps and realizes he's skrewed because google maps is actually worthless.

That would be really funny.

Microsoft has software for phones

While MS does not build phones it does have a software for phones (Windows Mobile) which is used in many phone models. Comparing software would be a more meaningful thing to do. Feature by feature, iPhone would lose to WM by a big margin though.

How many resets should the treo have in a 30 sec commercial? 2 or 3? =)

Wow. Summer camp must be on vacation, because all the iPhone haters don't have anything to do but to come to an iPhone forum and talk trash. Hopefully the rage will subside when Power Rangers come on.
No iPhone hater here. I just get a kick out apologists who are dealing with the reality that comes with Gen 1 devices. Even the untouchable Apple is not immune.

iPhone is very cool. When the 3G version comes out on a respectable carrier I might even consider getting one.

So you don't own one and you have no plans on getting one (I guess you missed the part where Apple and AT&T have a 5 year exclusive contract) yet you take time out of what I'm sure is a very busy day at work to come here and post snarky comments about iPhones?

Brilliant.

You need a hobby dude... or a toy like the iPhone to keep you entertained so you don't waste your time and ours.

I'm with you man. I love my Zune. and I really love my iPhone. If the iPhone was 30 GB and had a radio tuner or could at least stream radio from the web, maybe I'd lose the Zune. And the Zune isn't that big. I don't understand everyone's obsession with smaller and smaller. I can fit the zune in my pocket just fine.

Just for the record. I'm not a Apple or ms fanboy. i own a mac, vista pc, ipod nano, iPhone, and Zune. I just really love my toys and they all offer something different in one way or another.

Yup, my favorite feature of my Windows Mobile 5 Moto Q is the fact it crashes at least once every other day. When you plug in the charger on a USB cable it won't take a charge if it's below a certain level (like 30% power remaining) so you need to carry a wall charger everywhere... oh, and you need to charge it every 4-6 hours and that's with the extended battery. Oh, and I love how you have to carefuly monitor running applications because it not only contributes to battery drain but it also contributes to those wonderful crashes... so you manually have to go in and kill applications because when you close them they don't really close.

I'll keep my inferior iPhone that doesn't crash, has 2 days of power with lots of phone calls, watching videos and listening to music the whole time and I don't have to futz with keeping watch on what app is running and killing those I don't need running at the time to conserve power and memory.

I have a hobby, baiting iPhone apologists.

Seriously, I have no problem with iPhone owners or the device. I think its cool as hell. but this particular thread was started by someone bashing Microsoft with the usual Apple elitist mantra. So please, don't be so defensive.

respectable carrier? last i checked AT&T/Cingular had the most subscribers of any carrier in the US. are they my favorite? no, Verizon is by far. BUT, i have had no problems with AT&T whatsoever.

Yes the lack of 3G sucks. But the iPhone loads pages faster (and full html webpages, not WAP versions) faster than my Q did on Verizon's or Sprint's EVDO service. I'm getting close to 200k on EDGE although i rarely have to use it because i'm usually around a wireless network.

as far as the iPhone i have had no problems whatsoever. much less than my Treos/Q's/Blackberrys. Yes lack of MMS, mp3 ringtones are disappointing, i agree with the general consensus that these things will be added via software updates.

I'm with you. I like what works and what keeps me entertained. I haven't tried a Zune mostly because I bought my 60GB iPod a couple of years ago and it's still going strong after daily use. I just recently stopped carrying and using it daily when I picked up my iPhone. It does everything and more so I don't really need it. I just can't carry a full season of television shows on the iPhone... I have to keep it to the most recent 5 shows for those I watch... which is plenty. :p

haha right on brother. my sentiments exactly. the reason i got away from the Q. I'm curious if WM 6 cured any of those issues though.
