How to add words to iPad 2 dictionary?

I have an iPad2 running iOS 5.0.1, no current interest in upgrading !
Is there any way to add word's to the built in dictionary?
My wife has an unusual name and when sending emails it continually want's me to correct it.

Did you try adding a shortcut? Even if you make the shortcut the same as the actual word that will add it to the "dictionary" .

Go to Settings>General>Keyboard and at the bottom of the screen select Add New Shortcut. Just type the word in the Phrase line and save it. It will add it to your auto correct dictionary. You can also create a shortcut for the word or phrase by adding some characters to the Shortcut line in the same place.
