I am frustrated with this problem!

I have a 1st generation iPhone that I bought about 2 years back. I got it unlocked and jailbroken on firmware 1.1.3. I never updated to any other version as I was using a blackberry 9000 since last year provided by my company.

However a week ago I decided to upgrade my iPhone to the latest firmware 3.1.3.

I had iTunes 7(.something!) on a laptop so I plugged in my iPhone and it updated to 1.1.4. Then I downloaded ZiPhone and pressed the "Do It All" button. The iPhone was shortly Jailbroken, activated & unlocked. Piece of cake - or so I thought.
The iPhone is perfectly fine on 1.1.4. The problem is that I cannot update any further.

After downloading iTunes 9 I tried to update 3.1.3 but after the downloading the update, iTunes shows an error : The iPhone could not be updated because the firmware file was corrupted. No I have tried almost everything I know to make it work. I downloaded the firmware manually and tried to update/restore with **** but no luck. I downloaded other firmware 3.1.3 - 2.2 but no success. I restored to 1.1.4 and tried upgrading without unlocking/jailbreaking the phone but still no way. I tried to restore back to 1.1.3 but got the same problem.

I am now stuck on 1.1.4 and I don't know what did I do wrong and how can I upgrade to 3.1.3.

Please let me know what information you may need to know. I hope there could be a solution to this because its frustrating.

Thank you

Restore to 1.1.4, do NOT use ZiPhone, and then upgrade to 3.1.3
If you are looking to Jailbreak, then you can use Blackra1n. If you are looking to unlock, Search and make sure that you can with Blacksn0w (I believe you can, but cannot say for certain)

Blackrain won't work with 3.1.3. Pwnagetools will, but I would just update to 3.1.2 since you're on a V1 and you still can.

The problem is I am unable to update to any version. For example I have tried this now:

-Restored to 1.1.4
-itunes could not pair with the iPhone (because its not activated) so I disconnected and pressed the home button then reconnected (recovery mode). iTunes prompted to restore the firmware.
- If I Press SHIFT & click restore to select firmware 3.1.2 /3.1.3/or any other version I get the same error from iTunes "The iPhone 'My phone name' could not be restored because the firmware file was corrupt"

I am still stuck on 1.1.4 because whatever I do I still get the same error above when trying to update.

You might have to put the phone in DFU mode to restore. Also, you might need to get a different IPSW file if it's saying the one you're trying to restore to is corrupt.

@Sezabo, Do you have another computer to try the upgrade on?
I had problem and used another computer with success.

Delete the ipsw file and download it again. Try another USB cable.

Thanks this actually worked. I dropped the upgrade idea for a while. But then tried again on a new laptop and I 've upgraded to 3.1.2 Unlocked and Jailbroken...
Thanks again.

For iPhones, upgrades are free. For iTouches, it may require a fee for certain functionality.
