Hey thanks for the guide, after a few days I finally got MMS working myself..One thing I did notice and I don't believe anyone else has mentioned it is my tethering option has disappeared after MMS started working..will re-enabling that cause my MMS to stop?

Ok so I did this today and it worked...but only for like 5 mins, then I checked to see if the MMS APN settings were still there (first time I did it the APN username/password were blank when they were not before.) Before I did the sim switch I had entered all the MMS settings and after I had MMS working and after the sim switch it seemed to have deleted the user name and password but left the rest of the MMS settings the same.

Anyway then it stopped working and I added the MMS settings (username and password it deleted and still nothing. Also I noticed once I did this (while MMS was working awesome) my visual voicemail wasn't working. I went into visual voicemail APN setting and added the correct info and it worked but then my MMS stopped working after that.

Second time I got it working (I didn't even attempt to access or change visual voicemail) I went back after it stopped working and the all APN settings where still there so there was nothing I could do, nothing I could enter because it was all there; username password, mmsc and the ip address.

My question is we are fooling ATT into thinking we have a different phone, but once we start using our iPhone, it changes the device back on our account so doesn't that just negate the whole point? Because before when it was working it said I had a Palm Centro for my device. After it stopped working I logged back in and it said iPhone 3GS.

Wish ATT would activate MMS for everyone already. :/

what ipcc are you using? the procedure i provided for this thread is using a 5.0 carrier file... i didn't adjust any apn settings prior to sim swap and all that good stuff. i would recommend resetting your network settings and apn settings then update to 5.0. Shut it off then do a sim swap then turn on your iPhone again. it should work... even though it does show your device as a iPhone again, it still should be good. if you're seeing the features available and you see an exclamation point when sending, try changing the cellular netowrk settings i have listed (1st entry of this thread)...

I did, indeed, check, and so far I haven't been charged for MMSing. I'll check again soon, just in case.
did you check your bill or just your activity online? my account online just shows that i have been using multimedia messaging, but how can i check to see if i'm being charged? wouldn't that be on the hardbill and a month or 2 later since bills are usually billed ahead of time?

Yep I'm using the 5.0 carrier file. I tried adding the APN settings you listed in the first post many times but no luck. I will try to reset my networks settings (resets the APN settings) and try again but I don't have another phone I can use to do the sim swap with me.

Do you definitely have to log onto your account and change the messaging plan? Right now I have unlimted. I switched it to 1500, sent myself a test mms, and then switched it back to unlimited messaging and sent myself another test mms. Once I got that on the Palm I was using, I took the sim out and put it in my iPhone which was turned off. I turned it on and it worked great but only for like 2-3 picture messages and then stopped working.

Someone mentioned just putting my iPhone sim into another phone and start using it to make calls, browse the web, send mms. Then don't even bother logging into the ATT account, just swap it back into the iPhone after about an hour or so.

as long as you're on the right messaging plan, like unlimited family messaging, it should help out. this messaging plan includes mms. you don't have to keep switching the messaging plan online. you're right about the sim swap... just switch it until the device changes on your account then put it back into the iPhone. from then, if the mms works and then stops working, you should then try to apply the apn settings...

It might be because when you switch to your Omnia AT&T recognizes it and enables MMS. When you put the sim into the iPhone, AT&T only recognizes it later and switches MMS off for you. I don't know if anyone else has said this as I haven't read the rest of this thread because I'm just about to head off.

EDIT: Restored to the day I got my phone and sync all my stuff back. Installed carrier 5.0 and restarted. Have MMS icons now. Going to my boss's house tomorrow. I'll hi-jack his phone with my sim card for about an hour and use it as much as I can. Then put the sim back in my phone turn it on and try it.

So as of right now VVM won't work with this right or is it mixed results depending on people?

Now if it works then stops working do I enter the APN MMS settings? What if it still doesn't work do I reset the network settings and try again with the sim swap or leave the settings the way they are?

Also what if I put the visual voicemail acds.voicemail (or whatever it is) in first then do the sim swap?

i would say it varies because i never had a problem with VVM, but some do. i here you can just change your cellular data network settings, which appears with the 5.0.... but all i did was update to carrier to 5.0 and a sim-swap... plus i have family unlimited texting, which probably helps too.

With the 5.0 carrier file...change the voicemail apn to acds.voicemail

As an amusing aside, I have not been able to keep mms going without constantly sim swapping, so I gave up, today I rebooted my phone and received about 4 mms, even sent one, rebooted again, and it's gone.

I lost it shortly after sending a couple pics and a video. I don't think it is worth it to keep taking my phone out of it's case to do the sim swap either. I will just wait. I even updated to AT&T 5.1 which didn't work. But it immediately let a vvm come through from yesterday since on 3.1 beta 3 the vvm fields are not there to make the changes to get it to work correctly. I am now back on the original 3.1 beta 3 carrier file of AT&T 4.5.

I never had to change my voicemail apn with 5.0 and I've had MMS and voicemail working for at least two weeks straight.
