Hey guys,
I went to my At&t store today to ask some questions about iPhone, and they told me that they were gonna close at 4:30pm on the 29th and re-open at 6pm and then close again at 10pm.
I also asked some questions about date plan but they didn't' say anything. Also about the whole upgrade thingy, I was lil confused, so she explained it to me. And we also checked if i was eligible for an upgrade...and I guess i'd have to wait 13 more months to get an iPhone :( (makes me cry just thikning about it). I've been waiting for iPHone since they announced it and its really sad knowing that i wont have one now. :( I could get one if i add another line to my plan, which would be 75 bucks plus the date plan...so that wont work for an 18 year old....Definitely not. Do you guys have any alternatives for iPhone....I was thinking nokia n95? anything better then nokina n95 out there (besides iPhone). But yeah all of you guys out there that get iPhone ENJOY it and HAVE AS MUCH FUN WITH IT as you can, cause' some guys (like me) are not going to hold it and play with it :(...ughhh hahaa
this is so sad....
but let me know what phones i should look at next.
I am also thinking about going to Verizon, I might as well, they've been doing really well lately

Thank You

Store reps are guessing. Don't listen to them. Customer care, or tech websites are more reliable.

the N95 is way more than the iPhone....where will the cost savings be?

save your money...save your allowance....mow a couple of your neighbor's lawns...and try to get one in a couple months.

...that is, of course, assuming that what you were told is the truth, which i still HIGHLY doubt.

Relax. Nothing is official yet, and these store reps know nothing. Wait to see how everything plays out, and don't give up hope!

Add a line to your account, combine both lines on a family talk plan and pay an additional $9.95/month.

That's what I plan on doing if worse comes to worse, but, I'm hoping not to have to do that. I don't mind paying an extra $9.95 a mo. so I can get the phone though.

Dude, I've switched phones with Cingular before I was eligible for an upgrade. You just tell AT&T you have a different phone and take your sim card out and put it in the new phone. I've done it twice. I'm not sure if the iPhone carries a sim card though.

I still cannot see AT&T turning away customers not eligible for an upgrade. Makes no businesss sense, plus I don't think Apple would be ok with it.

hey thanks guys for all the support

Well iam definitely not gonna give up right now, I'll wait two more weeks before I purchase another cellphone, so if att employe was not telling me truth I can still buy an iPhone when it comes out. I wont pay cancelation fee and then get activate it again, thats just throwing 150ish dollars, wouldn't make sense to me. But again, i'll see, i'll wait 13 more days and lets hope that things change and I can get my iPhone. And yeah I don't get this too, I don't think Apple would be happy if things worked out like this. I've liked Apple for last 5 years, like big time, I have so many Apple products, and now i wanted to get an iPhone just because its an Apple product and I trust them, and i know that it's going to be an amazing product....but i hope they don't screw me over at the end (i was even down to pay $40 for date plan)
Let's see what happens in 13 days

Thanks again for all the support fellas

all that eligible upgrades mean, is that you can get a discount on a new phone. it doesn't mean you cant buy a new phone and activate it on your line. you just have to pay full price and get no discount. and because there is no supposed discount on the iPhone anyways, it shouldnt matter.

I hope that is the case...some people have insisted that if you are not a new customer or eligible for an upgrade you will not be able to purchase one. That is what concerns me

For the iPhone, AT&T is doing something different. First, there are no discounts since the iPhone is unsubsidized, new customer or eligible upgrade customer. Everyone will pay $499 for the 4GB model and $599 for the 8GB.

The iPhone will require new activation. New activation can only be done on new lines or contract renewals making current AT&T customers in contract and not eligible for an upgrade ineligible to purchase the iPhone.

Couple of things, I was getting kind of worried since I was not eligible for an upgrade or would not be doing a new activation.

-Called At&T. Was told it doesn't matter if you are eligible or not, the price is the same for everybody. She basically said "if you want one, you will be able to get one...regardless of being eligible for an upgrade or not"

-Went to local At&T store and was told the same as above. Salesman said "it does matter if you are a new customer, eligible for an upgrade or not eligible for an upgrade, you will pay either $499 or $599" and than asked him if would only sell the phone to new customers or those eligible for an updrade and he laughed and said "nope, the only thing you will have to be to get the iPhone is an At&T customer"

What does it matter if you are eligible for an upgrade. The phones cost the same to everyone there are no disounts, so why would At&T turn people away who have there money in hand and want an iPhone. Come on people when this iPhone drops if you are a new customer or an old customer you will be able to purchase an iPhone. The only thing I could possibly see them do is making you renew your contract to a new 2 year deal. Money talks people and there's no way Apple or AT&T gonna turn anyones money down.

I have been saying the same, but members on this board have been saying that was not the case.

I love the disfunction of AT&T. Ask two different people that work for them the same question and you get two complety differnt answers. They have really dropped the ball on this. You have employes speading disinformation to people like the thread starter that work them up into a frenzy. And its going on, let me check, 13 days till the 29th and we have zero more info about contracts and data plans since January. I'm almost sad that I am a Att/Cingular customer.:(
