I need an editable, sortable task list app, viewable by category and I need it now!

One of the reasons I am upgrading to a smartphone, and specifically the iPhone, is that I am drowning in multiple task lists: Business, side-businesss, personal, long-term, reminders, shopping lists... I could go on and on! I am constanly carrying post-notes glued to my wallet written down from Outlook (I should say I am a pretty novice Outlook user as it is) and I'm really hoping for an app on this phone right out of the gate that is going to help me organize my life ala Outlook Tasks but on-the-go,. I'm getting discouraged by what I'm seeing so far (esp as a Windows user). I have no idea what iCal is or does, and a "shopping list" app does nothing for me.

Surely I can't be asking too much...

I've been spending a lot of time on the miniblog portion of the app (where your entries go into an external page/feed like this one http://ipheed.com/dystopia.html)

But there's an section for Private notes that I can customize into something you're looking for.

For sortable, what would you like to sort by? Priority? date?

And for category, would you prefer strict categories or to be able to tag your tasks?

I can't test at work right now, but WOW, this actually looks pretty interesting and more that I was really thinking of - but with the capablities of the iPhone this might be the type of revolutionary hybrid app of the future! I like that it seems more intuitively flexible that a standard task list - which most lists these days could use. After all some lists I have (say as a nightclub promoter), are really reminders of shared tasks which the blog aspect could maybe even be used for.I can see where the blog could actually "publish" certain tasks for me to share with others as they are completed (I wonder if a blog like this could even be password protected?) Other times I also am saving a quick email address or website. Would these be able to be hyperlinked I wonder?

As for the actual functionality, if you look at Outlook for instance, you can tag and sort (and view) by drop down menus for date or status but you can also enter your own catagories and sort view or hide accordingly. Looking at your demo perhaps the editable title category would be possibly be enough for me as a first level of viewablity (and to keep it simple), but then as you view the actual note if you had a sortable date due (and/or status column)you might really be onto something. If you could have a hot-key to drop in a check-box (could even be a bullets ala Word) on the fly that would be hot! I esp. like the idea that this would be easily accessible like a "locker.

I may be highly caffinated today and have a case of iPhone fever, but I find this very interesting!

The only thing is if this is truly web-based, it may be slow to access through the EDGE network...

Thanks for checking it out. I just added basic tagging to the Notes section. I have the feeling I'm going to completely redo the UI once I get an actual iPhone, but I wanted to get the basic framework out there.

Yeah, I'm going to go crazy with AJAX on the site over the weekend. My plan was to start out with a minimal html site until I get an actual iPhone.

I have some concerns about the speed of EDGE and how the browser will behave (like the zooming), so I thought it safer to start with a basic site, and then spice it up when I can actually test.

Hey you could try Backpack (http://backpackit.com/) for your todo list. I use it for most of my GTD and love the way it works. Plus, they have a mobile version and, being the Apple fans that they are, they will probably release a iPhone formatted version also. It is a great little web 2.0 app that will text you alerts, etc etc. Give it a whirl!

I think Google's calendars have to-dos and such as well as calendaring. They also automatically save your work.

Beautifully simple. Can you add a way (or a few ways) to prioritize the list? ie. 1-5 in order of importance or by date?

And I agree with the comment on your webpage, would it really have been that difficult for Apple to have added a to do list to the iPhone. I am a huge list person. I got my iPhone yesterday and creating a to do list was one of the first things I attempted to do with ical on the iPhone...with no success.
