I need an editable, sortable task list app, viewable by category and I need it now!

Does anyone know if Apple will fix this problem in the coming months? I don't want to carry the iPhone and my PDA and I'm not crazy about having to re-enter all of my lists into one of the mentioned websites. The failure to synchronize my task lists and the bluetooth compatibility issues (with my Infiniti) are big stumbling blocks for me.

plaxo

This is the only thing holding me back from getting an iPhone!

I use tasks religiously in outlook, and its the main reason I want to get a smartphone.

It looks like my choices are to use plaxo.com which stays in sync with outlook, or to get a hosted exchange server, and visit it online from the iPhone.

Either solution is messy.

Well, I must say a lot has changed since I made this post... Heh. With the rise of the third party apps like MobileToDoList, i think my needs will met shortly. The last few updates are getting closer to a usable list app. I have to say ive also gotten used to crude lists with the notes app. I'm sure they'll be more flavours along in the third prty world as well. I'd give the mobiletodolist app a shot tho.

Another "band aid" for this need

When speaking with an Apple rep. this week about another synchronization calendar issue (which is now fixed), I complained about the inability to sync my task lists. He suggested two things: (1) Let Apple know about our need for a synchronized task list. You can do this at: http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html

(2) You can technically get around the task issue by adding an all-day event and putting your task list in the notes section of the event. I did that by creating an event titled "Phone calls" which repeats every Monday and it seems to work just fine. If nothing else, it beats the Notes app.

HTH!

I'm working on an app that is somewhat related that you can check out.

You can view it as a demo user here:
http://ipheed.com/demo
(logout to create your own account)

I've been spending a lot of time on the miniblog portion of the app (where your entries go into an external page/feed like this one http://ipheed.com/dystopia.html)

But there's an section for Private notes that I can customize into something you're looking for.

For sortable, what would you like to sort by? Priority? date?

And for category, would you prefer strict categories or to be able to tag your tasks?

I am looking for a task manager with similar capabilities.....I manage projects/cases as work so I would like to be able to sort or separate task lists by project/case. So the home page might have a list of projects/cases/categories that have active tasks that need taking care of. Perhaps the project with high priority tasks will be highlighted in red or something like that.

you can read calendar to do lists on the iPhone! gotta have .mac tho'

Make a To-Do list in iCal
Make sure it's published and viewable in Mail as a reminder in the To Do list.
Or just make the to do list in the Mail app.
Go to mail on the iPhone, go to the .mac account tab and go to Apple Mail To Do.
All the info is there-
Not really a very slick version, but I could directly dial telephone numbers form my list and you can delete them when they are completed..
