Will they let you pay to upgrade? The reason I ask, is that I've been trying to return and upgrade to an 8 at my local store for a week now, and they NEVER get any 8's in.. The closest Apple store is Charlotte, 3 hours away.

AT&T's solution is to return my phone, and order a new one, and have me be out a phone for a week.

I believe you can. If you are thinking of taking the 3 hour drive to your Apple store I would call first to make sure you can upgrade.

I was able to upgrade. My reason was because my iPhone was scratched by a belkin acrylic case (that i bought at the Apple store). I called up and spoke to a Manager at the Apple store I bought the phone from. The manager agreed to replace the phone for me with no restocking fee. Once she agreed I asked if they had the 8gigs in stock and if I could pay the difference for one. She agreed, the transaction was seamless, I heard the manager say to the rep processing the return “Just code it as, customer remorse.” 10 minutes later I was out of the store with a new iPhone.

One thing though, after they switch the sim cards, you’ll need to call At&t to transfer the IMEI number to the new phone, I tried and couldn’t register the new phone through iTunes.

Good luck,

Advice: Just don’t take no for an answer.

Would I call and go through the 1800 Apple number, to get approval and make an appointment, or would I call the store directly?

I'm going to try and plan this for next Sat and make the trip.
