Lets put the fiscal sense aside for a moment..

Apple shelved production of leopard, their new OS, to accelerate the release of the iPhone. After friday, they will go back to working on that before even worrying about the next iPhone. thats going to knock months off the next iPhones development time table.

Then thinking from a businesss standpoint.. why would they roll out the next phone when the majority of the user base is not even six months into their 2 yr contract.. waiting another six months beyond that at least just makes sense from a profit standpoint.

I think realistically, without any proof this is just my opinion, we will not see iPhone #2 until spring 2008 at the earliest.

If anyone has proof otherwise, please do post, but Ive yet to see anything legit.

I swear i read or saw a video with Jobs saying that the new phone won't be out for 2 years. Please don't flame me, i really think i saw this. I'll look for it. I think it was an interview with Jobs and he's sitting down with a guy asking him lots of questions and he gives the date of June 29. Anyone remember this video?

That's the D5 interview with Walt Mossberg, but i don't remember him saying anything like that.

I have never believed it. It does not make sense on many levels.

They would barely have time to get any real feedback on the first generation phone. Not enough time to actually do anything with it.

I'll do you one better, Jan 2009. Why? Apple has waaaay to much money tied up in iPhone inventory right now and they don;t even know if the iPhone will sell or not. It is still possible that it will flop. This is a hug gamble for Apple, if it flops it could take the company down with it. (Well, maybe not the whole company, they do have gobs of cash) But they are not going to build v2 before they even know that version1 will be ahit or not.

What I do think you will see in Jan 09 is the widescreen iPod. That has been rumoured to be in production for a long time now. Now that we know the screens exits and are available. The current generation of iPod is getting a little old. Actually I would expect new iPods before September, just in time for the Christmas buying season.

Good call. Aside from the (TALKED ABOUT TOO MUCH) 3G... I think Jobs will put some amazing thought, enhancements and user desired mods into V2. There is simply not enough time to implement these changes in even a year.

besides, i think Apple will want to see what the competition will provide so they can SMASH it yet again...

I think that they should (and probably will) ride out this iPhone, as long as they can. Simply because it's gonna take everyone else a WHILE to catch up, and release anything with anywhere near the same fluid functionality. Might as well "hold your cards" until you're called.
Migth as well keep perfecting the next one, up until there is absolutey little demand for the original iPhone (because everyone already has one...lol)

lasquintanas, your avatar picture with the landscape keyboard, is that a feature of the iPhone or is that a pic doctored up

I saw something yesterday, posted here. Link to a review or something.

It supposedly works for Safari only, as of release day.

My personal view is that mobile devices have a longer shelf life (or sell through). The only competition to the iPhone is...well the iPhone. No need to release a souped up version. Software updates will keep this phone up to date. Now, will they release a mini-iphone, that's possible. Lower cost, different market, less features. Again, no reason to put off a purchase of the iPhone (if of course you like the feature set).

I agree with you man I think they will just be updating v1 like crazy and won't see a v2 till they run out of updates. But Apple could get greedy and release a v1.2 lol

hey just my opinion on your shelf life comment, cell phones have a 3month shelf life. and the iPhone will only push that by a few more months because by x-mas we will be seeing all types of iPhone killers

I think the earliest we will see an iPhone update will be with the European and Asian launches which is a min of about 6 months away. This update i predict will be minor. The only hardware addidion that i personally can see by this time is a 3G arial/chipset and possibly a different battery to make up for the extra juice used by the 3G network. Also any initial launch problems such as faulty screens, batteries, cameras will be fixed by this point. I doubt it will even be classed as iPhone 1.25 let alone iPhone 2.0 ;)
Oh yeah, expect the new ipod fleet to hit you before this. Jobs was quoted saying that Apple were working on some extremely cool ipods:sick:
