I posted earlier today because my iPhone fell in the toilet last night. I need to know if I bring my iPhone into an Apple store, can I just say that the phone won't turn on for some reason and they will replace it, or are they going to open it while I am at the store to check and see if there is actually water damage. The phone looks perfectly new on the outside. Thanks and I appreciate any help there is for my problem. I am pretty depressed that my iPhone is already broken after two weeks and that I may be out 640 bucks.

Might want to wait and let it dry internally if you attempt that.. no offense but I don't think anyone should actually tell you yes or no on these forums. Its your choice to try it .. But Id say wait till its fully dry the inside could have 1 little drop of water and if they did open it then your crap out of luck..

as long as its before the 14 day return policy yes . bring it in , pretty messed up to hand an Apple guy your phone when its been in the toilet , disgusting if you ask me . give it a shot though they will be able to replace it for you if they cant tell anythings wrong from looking at it.

Sure you can lie and say whatever you want. You can justify it, blah blah blah....Somehow I don't think this forum should be used as a group think tank to come up with ways to "get one" past Apple. If you are looking for validation perhaps you should try another forum. Just do a google search for "con forum"

I would just tell Apple that the battery is in the toilet and it doesn't work now.

I actually took my 4gb in before my 14days and got an 8 g (was running out of room putting movies, etc on) During the exchange they actually made a call on it to make sure it was working. This was at an AT&T though so you may or may not be screwed

Most consumer cell phones now have water damage indicators inside them that will indicate if any water has ever been inside the phone. If that's not enough to convince you not to lie....just remember what your mama said....."honesty is the best policy". :)

If it doesn't even turn on they're gonna know something is wrong with it. Chances are they'll want to give you a loaner phone and send yours off to have it checked. Once they crack it open, they'll know it got wet.

It's too easy to tell that there's water damage.

I'd be afraid that my iTunes account credit card may get a $640 charge on it sometime in the future when they figure out you lied.

Seriously, unless you're a good actor, these guys have heard hundreds of lies about it just stopped working since the iPod was released, and they can pretty much diagnose a water killed device from the look, feel, smell, the sweat on your brow, the fear in your eyes, and your obviously lying face.

I'd try honesty first.

If that doesn't work, well... you can always try the other way at an AT&T store.

And either way, no more surfing the web when you're doing your businesss! :)

Ooohhhhh.... you're one of THOSE guys aren't you? When my husband worked retail years ago, he knew your type. The ones that f* up there own stuff, come in and demand an exchange, and then treat the salesman like dirt when they don't get their way.

Wow. I can't believe you're even considering doing this. Learn to take some responsibility for your own actions.

Thats awesome. the other thread got so trashed that theres another one. I feel bad for this guy. He's out an iPhone or $640, for what? Because he loves his iPhone so much. The people at Apple store are cool people, you gotta know how to present yourself and be friends with them.

I don't think "fair" has anything to do with it. You dropped your phone in the toilet. Is it "fair" to then expect Apple to replace it and then to deceive Apple into doing so?

If drying it out doesn't work, you have two choices: repair or replace. The cost is up to Apple. Fairly.

I'd laugh, but I'm pooped.
