Inter-platform group messaging question

A group of my friends use iMessage as a group chat. 3 of us have iPhones and one of us has an iPad. The one with the iPad went and got an HTC Rezound so now we need a way for him to receive the messages through his email if thats possible, even if he has to download a third party app, while the rest of us continue to use the regular messaging app.

Why can't he use texting with the rest of the group on his HTC? Your iPhones will automatically know he's not using imessage and will send the messages as a regular text.

because then the ipads wont be getting the messages as well

I thought only 1 had an iPad which is the one that got the HTC? So everybody has an iPad?

For iMessage, they should be able
To set it up to receive messages to their email or an Apple ID.
