I haven't used PkgBackup in years. I agree that there are potential problems involved with using it when going from one major firmware version to another. It's not difficult to make a list or take screenshots of your repos and packages before restoring. I always research what is compatible with the new firmware before installing stuff.

Even if you don't trust the compatibility function of PKGbackup you can still manually select which Cydia goodies get installed or not... personally I don't use the compatibility option, I like the way all the setting/options I previously selected for individual tweaks are remembered, it saves a lot of time. Usually within a 10 min window or less after jailbreak I have all my selected Cydia tweaks installed with pre-selected options in place.

That used to really tick me off. If I touched that entry my phone would freeze, forcing a hard reboot.
Same here. I also quit using that program. Found it was just as easy to keep a list of repos and tweaks in notes. I found I wouldn't install half of the ones I had listed anyway.

I can't really say. Other than that you usually have to wait for the jail breaking community to release another update.
You know that we're messing with you right?
Most jail breakers know that you DO NOT update & run tweaks that prevent the updates from even showing up ;)
