When I try to upgrade, it says I must pay the $499 (I know, I have read the fine print, 3G not eligible for upgrade) But it then tells me I may be eligible for a standard upgrade on 7-13-2009. Does that mean it will be cheaper then? Not Paying over $299 for the 32 gb!

I think that if you pay the 18$ for an early upgrade, you might pay the 299$ for the 32GB. I could be wrong, but that's how I take that message. And if you don't want to pay the early upgrade, you would be eligible at the date mentioned. I got the same thing when I tried to buy mine. I stopped right there, and I'll go to an AT&T store on my way home to find out exactly how it will work out.
I went through Apple's site and they told me it was $399 for a 16GB. I bought first gen iPhones and (2) iPhone 3G phones -- all on launch day.

That means you should be able to get full discount for upgrade on or after that date so you will pay $199 for 16gb & $299 for 32gb after 7/13/09. I'd wait if I were you. For some reason, mine isn't until December. Your monthly bill must've been more than mine.

Chris, your upgrade date shouldn't be 12/12 if you upgraded on launch day. It should be 7/12. I noticed this on my AT&T account online (one day it was 7/12, the next it was 12/12) and I called AT&T and ask why it changed. They were unsure, but the supervisor put a management note on the account stating that they have to give me the upgrade on 7/12 even though it says 12/12.

Im pretty sure those numbers are right, give and take a dollar, this is for the total monthly bill, I believe before fees and taxes, since mine is 98.50ish before taxes, and my date is 12/12/2009 to renew at discount.

I guess I'll just have to wait until 7/18. Thats my eligibility date. I don't see the point of paying 499 when I can just wait a month and pay 299. It sucks that they aren't doing it like they did with the 3G where if you signed a new 2 year agreement you get the discounted price.
