Looks like the new one will let us have the battery percentage next to the battery

WOW. Battery percentage only for 3GS wtf. I'm surprised we all missed that actually.

im really confused. In that video the 3g 3.0 and 3gs 3.0 both have the battery % indicator? Is this a new feature? Or a jailbroken one? If it is a jailbroken feature I think that is really unprofessional of Engadget?

When you get 3.0 it adds the battery percentage to your 3G..it is not a 3GS feature only and you don't need a jailbroken iPhone for it

On the Apple website it says the % indicator is a 3gs feature only? Apple must have it wrong, its a 3.0 feature then?

Its not a 3.0 feature. This was discussed months ago with the 3.0 betas. People who had that indicator from jailbroken phones and updated to 3.0 kept the indicator.
Apparently the 3GS has it too.
Correct me if I'm wrong but my v1 does not have that percentage.

It's a 3GS only feature. The phone that engadget is showing is a 3GS not a 3G so that's why it has it. I searched all over the 3.0 for it on my 3G and it doesn't exist.

So the engadget video above which shows a 3g running 3.0 and that feature must have been jailbroken? Im surprised, thats not very professional. Any confirm if it is do-able on 3g?

The engadget link shows a 3G S. But, you are correct that a 3G device would need to be jailbroken in order to get the battery percent indicator.

No, the side by side comparison between the 3g and 3gs for speed shows the 3g on 3.0 with the % indicator - look again

Yup, like Term and others, I've run all the 3.0 betas and now the GM / final build on a 3G - and there is no setting or option to show battery %age.

Very odd - and not really too admirable - some of the features Apple is choosing to make 3GS-specific.

I can just about see some justification for video recording being specific to the new hardware, but Voice Control and this battery feature are just dopey ones to keep from 3G users ...

Ok I can understand everything else, but no battery percentage on V1 and 3G is weird. That doesn't require anything new.

i thought we were fairly certain the 3GS has a dedicated voice recognition chip to handle all of the voice processing...

Hmmm, I don't recall hearing that - maybe I missed it. I did see Gizmodo saying roughly same as I feel - that voice control has been available on an assortment of crappy, low-specced WinMo phones for years - so not sure how on earth you justify the 3G not being able to handle it ...
