Hi Guys

My phone will not boot up or start -

I have tried holding the power and home buttons and I get a silver Apple logo - it then goes black again.

When connecting to mains or pc - the same Apple logo shows then disappears

Not sure what to do now ?

Thanks

Paul

Does iTunes recognize the device? You may have to put you phone into DFU mode and restore through iTunes.

Hi

What is DFU mean

Not tried it on iTunes yet ?- If I 'restore' does that mean I lose all data - contacts music pictures ?

I really am a novice on iPhones

DFU Mode is a state in which the phone enters so it can be restored under software fault conditions.

I suggest you connect your phone to iTunes and see if you can restore. If you do restore it will wipe your phone, however if you have recently backed up your phone the loss of data will be minimal.

Hi

On pressing the power and home buttons - I get the silver Apple logo - and nothing else - how do I know if it is in DFU mode ?

Or is this something you see in iTunes ?

Help!

No, but iTunes will let you know you've entered DFU mode with this popup. The iPhone screen will be black rather than showing the connect to iTunes logo:

Hi I get a black screen with a silver Apple logo - but to confirm do I have to be connected to iTunes to enter DFU mode ?
Thanks
Paul
Plug phone into computer, press and hold both the home and top button together for 10 seconds, then only release the home button for another ten seconds. iTunes should say that it has found a device that needs to be restored. Welcome to DFU mode :D

You need to star your own thread on this in our iPhone Jailbreak forum. I've moved it there for you.

OK, so as of today I'm suffering the same issue. Constant reboot at the Apple logo.
When I get home I'll connect to iTunes and follow the steps listed above.
My big questions for you guys is...

1. Will it update the the latest firmware?
2. If so, is that firmware jailbreakable? (I haven't updated in a couple years)
3. I actively use Iblacklist from Cydia... if I wipe, will it also lose all my contacts in iblacklist? or does iTunes back that up somehow?
