iPhone 4, back up & JB query

Hi all

I want to take back up of my iPhone. There is a problem. The MacBook which is synced with my phone isn't turning on. It has symbolic link error & only formatting is the option.

So now I have to take back up of my iPhone connecting to other computer.

Back up of contacts/calendar is not required as I have synced with gmail. No issues with songs & videos. Can put them again. But I need following :

-SMS
-notes (very important)
-apps. This is the main problem. I have apps around 10GB and if I had to download again them all, it would take a month ! I am not kidding, that's how my current internet speed is (4kbps)

My current iPhone version is 4.3.3 and I want to upgrade it to iOS 5. I wouldn't mind tethered JB.

-I heard tethered JBs are buggy, is it true ?
-do I have to install my apps everytime I reboot ?
-I heard battery back up of iOS 5 is poor. Is it true ?

Tethered JBs are not always buggy, however you do run the risk of certain applications and tweaks not being compatible with your iPhone version which may send you to safe mode, which isn't bad, it's just sometimes annoying.

You do not have to install your apps every time you reboot. However, you do have to "boot tethered" every time you reboot or else Cydia will not open.

What do you mean by battery back up of iOS 5? There have been reports of battery drain on iPhone 4S with iOS 5. I'm on iOS 5.0.1 with iPhone 4, and have had no issues to complain about. Battery still drains the same. It depends on what you are doing (music, games, etc).

Which computer will you be syncing on? I know for a fact MacBooks will save your notes in the Mail application. As far as your SMS, you may try and find a way to sync them to a program on computer somehow.

I woudn't mind to going to Safe mode & reboot a device. And also I am never going to turn off my device. So it's not a problem.

Like I said, iOS 5 with iPhone 4S has had battery draining issues. But on my iOS 5 iPhone 4 I've had no issues whatsoever.

5.0.1 has semi-tether after you jailbreak tethered. 5.0.2 is not available yet.

^Yes, I found it out later.

I have successfuly upgraded to iOS 5, wow it is just awesome. Notification center is way way better than that of Androids !
