iPhone 4 out of memory

Ok I have a 16 gb iPhone 4 and it's out of memory so I bought 5 more gigs on iCloud but it still says I don't have enough memory on my phone to update to ios6. I have about 1000 pics on here and 30+ videos and 100+ apps someone said I can put my pics on my pc and delete them from my phone but I'm afraid to because they're all pics of my daughters 1st year. Thanks in advance

1. Sync all of the pictures and videos to your computer.
2. Backup your computer.
3. Delete some of the pictures and videos from the phone.
4. Upgrade to 6.0.
