I upgraded and think it was worth it.. Download speeds are much faster, Siri rocks, and everything is much smoother and snappier with the new processor....

I feel it was worth it! Don't get hung up on looks. Sure, the phones look the same, but the guts that run the phone are all new and faster!
I don't think so, I used my friends update since I'm not eligible till Feb. it just seems a little faster, better camera and Suri. If I was you, I would wait till iPhone 5.
not yet, order was processing Friday morning, if I don't get a tracking number by tomorrow AT&T is going to get my last phone call.
This is the same question I have as well. Now that people have had some more hands on time I am curious to hear what people have to say.
Is call quality better with the new antenna design? Is the camera really as good as I have been reading?

Siri alone is worth the upgrade, camera is amazing, phone is overall faster to load everything including opening apps. Voice quality is better and 1080p video recording. Yes, it's worth it.
I'm hoping to sell my 4 for $400. If I'm able to it will still cost me a hundy for the cancel fee and purchase of the new one.
After playing with Siri, it seems it fails for more of my requests than it works. I'm some what disappointed and wish I would have saved the money because currently I don't see much of a difference. Meh, don't let my wife see this thread. Lol

To me the iPhone 4S is a worthy upgrade to my iPhone 4. It feels much more snappy. Gone is the lag that seemed to be ever-growing on my iPhone 4. And it is not setting up as new as I restored from a backup from iPhone 4. In fact I might start again and setup my 4S as new as I just realized I have SMS messages going back to my original iPhone.
Siri is amazing also. I use her a lot. Especially for reminders and quite often just to dictate a text or whatnot. Considering this just the beginning of what Siri will do I am very impressed--yet excited about what is to come.
Finally, the camera is a LOT better than the 4's. Gone are any trace of the "yellow tint blues" of flash shots. In fact I'm amazed at flash and low light shots with the 4S.
But the speed is what I see most.... every time I use my 4S.

The 4S is to the 4 as the 3GS was to the 3G...besides a couple of intriguing upgrades the 4s got, like Siri, and a better camera, it really isn't worth the upgrade unless you have nothing to lose in terms of upgrading early.
I, myself was not entitled for an upgrade this time, and did not find it a big enough difference in phones to have to pay the early upgrade fee.
I prefer waiting for the 5 next year...I'm sure we'll see better and bigger things being unveiled from Apple with the 5.

I need to add to this more than my original post as I've had some time to play with the my 4S. Compared to the 4S, my wife's 4 feels tired, slow and under-powered. The camera loads up so much faster on the 4S that my wife refuses to use her phone anymore for pics of the kids and wants to use mine. She says her's was taking so long to load that she's missing what she wants to take the photo of.
Web pages load so much faster with the 4S that the 4 feels like there is something wrong with it.
The call quality is better and I have not dropped a call yet, whereas with my 4 in the same locations, I was constantly dropping calls.
And Siri, well Siri speaks for it self (literally). I can't say enough good about it.
I realize that some can't upgrade yet and that sucks, but the 4S is worth every penny of the upgrade.
Just being honest.

Obviously with every generation that passes the phones will get faster...that's just not a good enough reason for me to pay an early upgrade fee every year. I prefer to way the pros and cons and base my decision on that.

And you are right on the money. I still have my 4 here on my desk that I used for a few shots of my 4S. Forget about the increase in quality... the speed increase alone was worth the upgrade.
As for cost... well I just sold my 3GS for more than I paid for it in 2009--and after I got my 4 last year I used it as a spare and then later on for iOS 5 testing as well. I can sell my 4 for more than I paid for it last year.
So, not counting service which is a constant anyway, if my iPhones cost less than zero I don't see why I wouldn't upgrade.
