Does Apple plan to produce official iPhone cases that come in different colors and shapes like they do for the iPhone? If this thing is going to replace my iPod I am going to need an arm band for exercising like I currently have for the ipod... and a nice black case would be preferred.

I have reviewed several cases from different manufacturers over at BlackBerryForums.com (I am currently a BlackBerry addict, waiting for the iPhone to sweep me off my feet in June), and I have already contacted a few of them in preparation for the iPhone case line. One of them is actually already sending me a prototype to play with and provide feedback for future releases. As soon as I get any cases I plan to review them in these forums for all of you to share. I am very into accessories, particularly cases, since the dvices I like are several hundred dollars - investments - as the iPhone will be.

Cases are very important to me also!

Could you please let us know if there has been any additional information concerning the prototype you were to receive? Do you have to wait until the iPhone is released? (June).

Meanwhile, I have contacted three companies that manufacture excellent cases. One responded that they will let me know if and when a case will be produced. I particulary like their magnetic flip-style cases.

Also, another company is planning on a really nice looking minimalist aluminum case for June shipping to coincide with the iPhone release. That's a definite.

This may be the one!

For those of you who know Timbuk2 (messenger bag maker), I am the founder of Timbuk2 and I now have a new company. One of my new products is an iPhone case. Just got my first samples back yesterday I think they're looking pretty good.

I'm trying to upload pics here but the system is limited to 97KB and my pics are 348KB. Is there a way to work around this?

Rob-
Send them to me at info at everythingiPhone.com. I can host them and then post and reference them in the this thread. We keep the minimum size down to cut down stress on the forum database.

Thanks.

I travel internationally a lot every year. My own personal wish list for a case was to have slots for SIM chips. I carry 3 plus one in my Treo all the time. And they are very easy to lose.

It's also big enough for SD cards. (I have an airplane that requires me to use an SD card to update the GPS database.)

I have a Treo, and I have always been a fan of case that allows me to see the screen will its in the case and have access to the keypad. With the iPhone, theres no keys so I think a flap might be a good idea. Anything to keep the scratches away.

My thinking is, too, that I don't think people are going to want to use this inside a case. This is a thing you want to easily pop out of a case and use it in your hands. That's what the slot is at the bottom. Not for connector cords, for your finger so you can pop your phone up and out of the case.

That's practical. I like it.

I was always wondering when the cases would come out for this phone, and whether or not designers would find it ideal to make it usable through some plastic film or require that the user pops it out.

I imagine that we'll eventually see many of both... unless I'm missing something as to why I haven't seen any of those cases with interior screens yet...

The cases look good but is there anything that is a little more hip and modern? Perhaps something more streamlined and sophisticated. The ones pictured look good but kind of suggest woodsyurbanite kind of person. I would love to have a modern city slicker non stichwork exposed and perhaps not the same kind of material used. Smooth texture and seamless design to match my phone.

Thanks Chris, but as soon as I posted that I thought of a work around. I'm just going to post them on my .mac account a put up the link.

Yeah, you know, I think there's tons of that out there. In fact, to be quite honest, I'm a little sick of the look of all the ipod and cell phone cases out there. I've gone through a number of them myself. I wear them for a little while and just end up not using them. I've got a drawer full of them.

My take on the problem was to try to create something that's a cross between a protective case and a comfortable piece of clothing. I totally love all my jeans that I wear. They become a comfortable part of my life. That's what I want to capture with these cases. Heavy, durable cotton canvas. Soft protective lining. Truly functional features. Minimal branding (ergo, the jeans rivet for my logo). And then, just like I did with Timbuk2 bags, my personal signature is: lots of fun color combinations!

Well they do have fun colors, very eye catching and I think you accomplished your goal for something casual and enjoyable. I appreciate the minimal branding and usually buy generic items for that reason, i am not big on flashy logos especially if it in some bold letters.

Thanks. Yeah, I agree. The day of big splashy logos is done, IMHO. My eyes are tired, damn it! I'm welcoming back the days where less was more.

One of the things I really love about Apple product design, as well, is it's simplicity and functionality. And what bothers me about so many cases is that they try to cover up Apple's great products with something that is so, at times, ridiculously over-stated.

As a designer I don't think it's my job to create some piece of "design choreography" to impress you into buying a case. (Although that often works well as a short term businesss model.) I believe I am supposed to create a case that, 1) Protects the contents (your iPhone), 2) Lends itself to making the product more usable/accessable and 3) Makes the user feel good about his/her purchase.

Ultimately you want to enjoy your iPhone rather than just the case that surrounds it. I don't want to try to trump Apple's design. I want to protect it.

Good day to us all...

I am sure that is it must be a windows thing... When I go to this link, it asks for a password. Based on what the others have written, it sounds wonderful though.
