Does anyone else go through the same, "Oh look at big money with the iPhone" situation? I Actually think it's funny, but at the same time it's annoying. I'm anything but rich, but I know how to save. In fact I've been saving since January when the I watched the Keynote address. I get a lot of people asking me to see my phone, but then at the same time I know many of them would inwardly rejoice if my iPhone bit the dust. I guess it's just jealously.

The current *best* iPod costs $349. A nice cellphone could easily run you $149 to $199. That's roughly $548 or so. iPhone is available for $499 or $599.

Having one device that is the *best* iPod, phone, Internet in your pocket and so much more ---> Priceless.

I only have one idot where I work.

He always seems so negative and mad almost like he is jealous or mad because he can't afford one.

He says things like:

You bought it only to make new friends
Other companys are making their version of iPhone
Why do you want a phone hat so many other people will have

Then he brings up everything I have including my house, 4 laptops and two cars.

Sounds like he is mad and jealous to me. Oh and he's in his upper 20s and still lives with his parents.

some guys spend their money on cars...some guys spend their money on clothes...some girls spend their money on purses...some girls spend their money on shoes...

i spent $600 on an iPhone and I love the friggin' thing.

i'd get another if i had an extra pocket to stick it in.

I use this logic and gets them everytime.

When I found out about the iPhone in January, I immediately sold my video iPod for about $220. I then called Verizon and complained for hours with them about how much my phone bothered me and how I wanted out of my contract. It took about 8 hours of phone time with managers but finally they let me out of the contract, refunded $150 of my phone and let me actually KEEP the phone also. I had paid around $250 for the phone so it ended up costing around $100 (retails for $400). I had the Samsung A990, which is currently their most expensive phone.

Right around when the iPhone came out I put my cell phone on eBay and sold it for $380.

iPod = $220
Cell phone = $380

$220 + $380 = $600
iPhone = $600

Don't Pay Attention

to those people they don't know what you had to do to get it I worked side jobs to make the extra money. These could be the same fools droping $599.00 for a PS3 and $60.00 a game....

Let them keep drinking that HaterAid.... :laugh2:

I get it too

I get this stuff too.

My dad thinks I'm crazy. But, he grew up during the Great Depression, so he thinks anything more than $19.95 for a phone is crazy.

The people at work oohhh and aaahhhh over the phone. But, they are too cheap to buy one. Give me more time. We have an excellent product to work with.

Very good point. You can really appreciate the value more when you break it down like that. $149-$199 is actually a very conservative estimate on nice cell phones these days, especially when they first come out.

I got this at my office today for the first time. A group of people were standing around doing a pseudo office birthday party thing and I whipped out my iPhone to check email. It caused a bit of a stir and several people made comments about how they wanted one but were waiting for the Exchange integration to work and others mentioned the cost. I asked about the cost and several people said that dumping their current contract ($200 fee) and buying an iPhone ($500-$600) would be around $1k and that it was too much to spend on a phone... these are people that all make well over $100k a year. Ok, 1 - 100th or less of your income on a tool that entertains you, helps you to work, and is even likely a tax write off if you do things right... it's too much money... but these same people will buy $600 suits for work, $100 lunches for friends, etc.

Priorities people. :p

Don't forget the plasma....I guess I am a fool also. :) no harm.

On topic.....

A security guard at my work makes snotty comments from time
to time to me about my phone. Guess some people just need to
grow up.

I remember when the StarTac came out at $999.
That was too rich for me, but I did buy one at $599.
That was over 10 years ago.

Steve Balmer is a complete idiot laughing at the price of the iPhone...
How is that XBox businesss going Steve B?

The last product launch from Microsoft that could be called a success was Windows 95.

The whole iPhone is too expensive, thus, this guy has too much money sterotype is COMPLETELY inaccurate.

IF an individual has need of a Smartphone with web browser, E-mail and other fancy features, the iPhone isn't expensive compared to competing products. Why? Because the iPhone's rate plan is $20/month LESS EXPENSIVE than those competing products.

So, you see, having an iPhone makes you a SMART consumer. :)

Exactly, Mark.

I moved happily moved from a BB Pearl to the iPhone and cannot be more pleased. Internet, or should I say 'mobile internet', on the Pearl was abysmal.

Say you have a solid, decent phone with revolutionary visual voicemail ($199), plus a great widescreen iPod ($199), plus a portable device that serves you the real internet ($199). Suddenly $599 for all three in a sleek packages seems quite reasonable.

Now granted FLASH technology will grow in time, but I am able to live well with 8g. Even traveling for a week I do not need more than that.

To boot, as you mention, I am saving $24.95 a month...

This is the first product in a new platform for Apple.
In time, history will view the iPhone as a real game-changer in the cell phone market, I am confident in that.

The way I see it is this...

I have no wife and kids to support.
The dogs are all healthy and well fed.
My bills are paid and the mortgage is current.

Whose businesss is it, if I want to buy myself a new toy..er..uhm..I mean important, must have to survive in the world, piece of serious equipment? ;)
