I couldn't find this posed in any previous threads so..

Anyone have insight as to why when my iPhone is connected to my home wifi and the phone auto-locks, my macbook wifi connection seems to drop state and has to reconnect to the wifi?

This seems to happen on occasion when my iPhone connects to the wifi as well.

Anyone else experiencing this? It really sucks for SSH connections.

no N here, linksys WRT54GS
I was having the same problem. My macbook is connected to my airport extreme (the new mini looking one) at N. But when my iPhone connects at G, it was bringing me down for a second or two.

Wi-fi can not share speeds, if you are on a wireless network at G, and someone with B connects, every comes down to B.

My iPhone was causing my network to come down to G, so I would temporary lose my N and it changed to G on my macbook.

Solution: put my macbook on the wire at 1 gig.

It seems your linksys is dropping your connection as it issues an IP to the iPhone.

Does it do the same thing is someone else connects to your wireless network?

aha, I can see the logic behind that.

so far I have not had any issues with other computers connecting to the network, this behaviour only started with the iPhone.

You can try to reset the router. Hold down the recessed button on the back for about 20 seconds.

It it an older WRT54GS? There was a firmware update in March that corrected a lot of the drop out problems.

Yeah the router is well over a year old. I may end up purchasing a new model with b/g/n or something. I can't be bothered to update firmware on that damn thing :D

Thanks for the info.

Same problem here... Except with a MBP

It won't "kick me off" as I still see full activity in airport, but I will not get any data transfer.
