I made an interesting discovery tonight. My wife and I both bought iPhones. tonight when I plugged mine in for a recharge, the phone did not respond as usual, that is, showing the battery meter and making it's little churp sound. When my wife heard me cussing, she announced that she switch cable and cradle with me because it wouldn't work on hers. (Thanks Dear!)

After doing some checking, I isolated the problem to the cable. The cradle still seems to work fine when plugged into the good cable.

My thought for some of the folks who couldn't seem to get their phones to charge could be attributed to a cable issue rather than the phone? If we were a one phone household, I would probably been on EI trying to find what might be wrong with the phone, and taking for granted the cable may be to blame.

Make sure it's not the AC adaptor. There was a thread going awhile back where people (myself included) were having problems with their iPhones not charging because of what appeared to be a bad batch of AC adaptors. A good way to troubleshoot would be to plug your phone into your computer with each cable and see if you still get juice.

I isolated my problem to the ac adapter but wouldn't be surprised to hear that cables are going bad too...if it is non functioning an Apple store would replace it for you, unless when you go to the store it mysteriously works again...like my stupid charger that has conked out 3 different times:oops:

The AC adapter IS the problem

You guys are absolutely correct. I just swapped the adapters, and one seems to be dead.

I have read most threads posted on EI about the troubles, I just missed that one.

As a side note - if you buy the Jawbone BT headset - you get a 'spare' power supply with the Jawbone that can be used to charge the iPhone!

Jawbone can be charged via USB or it's own PSU - as can iPhone.

Nice to have a spare PSU for 'free'!
