when i dock my phone, iphoto opens instead of iTunes. i open iTunes manually and there's no problem, but i don't understand why iphoto opens automatically. i checked preferences and even rebuit permissions on my computer. still does it.

is anyone else have this peculiarity, know why it is happening, and know how to change it?

thanks

carl

Did you take any photos with it?
If so, it wants to offload them in iPhoto just as if you had connected your digital camera.

ah...that's makes sense. it thinks i'm connecting a camera.

iphoto is an ingester and downloads from the phone; iTunes is a deliverer and will download TO your phone but not FROM it.

how would i disable this from happening if i don't want iphoto to open every time i dock the phone?

I'm sure there's a setting somewhere inside iPhoto, just like iTunes' option that says "sync automatically when I connect the iPhone" or whatever it says...

Actually, it's kind of convoluted.
You have to open Image Capture, which is located in your Applications folder.
Go to Preferences and set what you want to have happen when you connect a camera.

Doesn't anyone read these threads?
Just look at my last post, just a few above this one.
I think you need more cowbell.

THANK YOU. While I'm not having a problem with iTunes not opening, it is kind of a pain to have iPhoto open all the time. I'll try this.

Yeah this was a huge pain and Apple doesn't make it very easy to figure out where/how to turn it off. Lucily google came to the rescue.

Thanks ryukyu for your answer, even thought it was kind of a smart ass answer. I read your post, my question was where do I find the Appplications folder. Some of us are not as smart as you. I hope someone can answer this question without being rude.

If you go to 'finder' in your pop-up menu bar, it will open a finder screen and you'll see the Applications folder listed on the left hand side of that window.

It's icon is a letter A (for Application) made up of a pencil, paint brush and a ruler :)

Just click on it to open the applications folder

Thank you for your informative reply. I am beginning to see the confusion. I think you guys are referring to Apple computer file folders. I have a PC running XP, so I guess there is a different folder that holds the Image Capture command. I have done a search for Image Capture app on my PC, but no file come up for this. Anyone on the forum knows where I can look to find out how to disable the Image Capture feature on a PC. Thank you in advance.

While the iPhone is connected if you go to Control Panel -> Scanners and Cameras. Right click on the Apple iPhone and choose Properties. Click the event tab and you should be able to choose what action to take, including take no action.

Hope this helps.

Sorry, but if you read the original post, you would see that the question pertained to iPhoto opening.
iPhoto is only available on a Mac. Therefore, I assumed you were on a Mac, and you should easily be able to find the Applications folder.
Still need more cowbell. :)
