AT&T today announced that GO Phone users can now purchase blocks of messages, megabytes, and off-peak minutes. Pre-paid subscribers can buy 200 messages for $5 or 3000 for $20, 1 MB of data for $5 or 5 MB for $10 and 3000 off-peak minutes for $20. These packages are good for 30 days however unused portions will roll over if a subscriber renews the package before it expires. Go Phone users will still pay for voice calls by the minute. Many other pre-paid carriers allow subscribers to buy "hybrid" plans that include a monthly allotment of voice minutes, messages and data at a discounted price.
Could this mean that the iPhone will be available without a contract? We could only hope.
