iPhone signal strength please help!

I have a 1st gen iPhone 16gb out of warranty on att. And well i always get like 1 bar at home but when i set my mothers nokia att phone beside mine she has 5 bars and i have 1 or 2. I have tried putting her sim card in my phone and was still the same 1 or 2 bars and i have tried putting my sim in her phone and then it gets like 5 bars. I have replaced the sim card before with a new one so it is not the sim card. And i cant spend $300 on a signal booster. So want can i do to get a better signal with my iPhone? Is there like anyways through software? Please Help ME.

Her phone is probably 3G and able to get a better connection. Your v1 can't connect to 3G towers.

Try turning off the phone and wait a few seconds, then turn it back on. That sometimes helps when I had bad reception.

Also try re-seating the SIM card. A bad connection can easily lower your signal strength.

its is some cheap $10 nokia that does not have 3g.

You should try a cell signal booster for your home. I got the zBoost from www.wi-ex.com and now my iPhone gets 4 bars instead of 1 and my internet on my phone works much better. Just a suggestion that worked for me.

At this point, before spending around 300 for a signal booster, why not use the 300 for a 3Gs? Obviously if another phone on the same network is getting 4 bars and his V1 is getting 1 bar, it's highly probable that is V1 should be replaced. And he should do it now before it goes out on him completely and can't get as much for it on eBay
