Do you think that if you have an iPhone, it is at a higher risk of being stolen then a blackberry or palm treo?

To an idiot yes high risk of being stolen. But any rational thief would know that it has a serial number registered to you and whenever it is plugged into iTunes it is transmitted to Apple and if stolen they will track it down for you.

Yeah but the bozo who buys the hot iPhone on the street for $200 doesn't know that.

If that happens, I will have already written down my 15 digit IMEI number and will call Att and tell them to blacklist that phone on the network.

But I guess they still would have the best iPod even made.:(

Let's just hope this doesn't get all crazed like the Air Jordans where people were getting shot over their shoes.

I realize this goes to my JULY 4th thread but..."GUYS watch your iPhone July 4th. And to the earlier point. Idiots on the street would definitely be dumb enough to buy a stolen iPhone before realizing they cant use it.

Oh yeah, that....

I don't think the iPhone is going to be that big of a craze, but it will be huge. Just watch it and don't be dumb, and you'll be all good. You guys are acting like it's a baby :laugh2:.

Note that in that last line I am leaving room for a joke ;).

lol I get the baby joke. I was thinking whether or not Ive anticipated anything else like this before. I wasn't anticipating Treo...I just went and Bought the thing. I DO, however remember when I wanted my 1999 Isuzu Trooper and I behaved exactly like this. Looking online ..researching etc..
This is for sure the first time Ive posted comments with such frequency. And gladly by the way.

nah this thing is way cooler than a baby. Babys don't play music, make phone calls, or surf the internet.

Hey I got mugged for my iPhone last night and on my Birthday of all days, was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to track it down to get it back somehow? maybe through iTunes I'm thinkin maybe if they ever hook it up to iTunes they can trace it?

Dateline NBC did a show last week called to Catch an iPod thief. Well it pretty much boiled down to Apple not doing anything to track down stolen iPods because it would be too overwhelming with all the ipods (now iPhones too).

They do know who registers the iPods iPhones and computers but they really won't do anything if they are stolen.

How did it get stolen exactly? You say robbed?

That sucks, I would make a police report and then call AT&T and see if there is anything they can do on their side when you call to disconnect your service.

Any chance your stolen phone was covered under renters or homeowners insurance? ...or by the credit card company if you purchased that way?

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. :(

Most homeowner insurance companies will allow you to add the iPhone to your coverage that adds accidental damage and theft replacement policies.

Buy a new or remove " & now the iPhone" from your sig.

Yes it is possible for AT&T to do something... no they probably won't.

Think about it... if this device were like the President's or something, all they would have to do is look and see if the person made a call. Of course, after the call ws made it would just be all to easy to track it down.

I am sorry to say that the chances of you getting your phone back are pretty slim but still have hope.

so i went to the courthouse to run an errand for the attorney i work for, and when i get back to the office, a friend instant messages me and asked why i texted him " i want to f*** your mom." I check my pocket for my phone and its not there? i call it over and over and it rings once then voicemail, three times then voicemail. Now its just straight to voicemail, because they turned it off. I call AT&T to get the most recent calls and they say they cant give me that info. even tho in a few hours it will be updated on my cingular online account. so they are no help at all. i cancelled the service, and now i have no phone. no insurance, no way of getting a new one without paying 500 dollars again. this sucks.
