According to hackint0sh @ http://hackint0sh.org/forum/showthread.php?t=2215 they managed to get the iPhone unlocked. Anyone think its true? I really think if you want it you should have to get AT&T IMHO. Anyone else have thoughts or tried it?

if this is true it took exactly 38 days from the day the iPhone was made available. It was just a matter of time. Now i suppose you can put your TMobile Sprint or whatever carrier you have on it.....

Hopefully you are kidding. Of coarse this is along with every other hack that is done on the iPhone including the ringtone hack etc.

no, i think this is in the same vein as hacking your satellite or cable card to get free cable. im serious. this is different than a normal hack. this is NOT the same as unlocking your phone to take any sim. this is unlocking the sim to work with any carrier and if im not mistaken it works for free
When you hack your satellite or cable card you don't pay premium anymore, you are just getting service for free. Cable company will let you used your satellite equipment with another company if you purchased the equipment. With the iPhone hacked you already pay for the equipment which is yours and if you manage to use it with T-Mobile then you will be paying T-Mobile, not just getting service for free.
It is only a matter of time until the full unlock will become available but my feeling is that Apple will keep looking out for that and try to make it harder in firmware updates! They kind of control us guys and we can't say NO!

That is what I took from this also....is this just allowing him to use ATT roaming for free or is he using a local carrier which he is paying for? If it is the first then it is definitely illegal and not a hack rather stealing. If this is true, why would anybody assume this would go unnoticed?
From what very little i Know.... you would be paying for the service that you use on your iPhone via another carrier ie...verizon, you would just not have all function of your phon but still beable to have one to use on there network.
I know that there are people who are carring around phones that are free that are not hacked. I believe what they are trying to do is beable for everyone to use there iPhone on other networks but use there existing numbers and service by switching there sims to acces that particular network.

this what i am saying. if you read the post in that forum it mentions something about the carrier banning your subscription if they found out it was happening, which leads me to think that doing this is all about "coulda and not shoulda"
Ehh im glad i got rid of T-Mobile, had absolutely 99% signal drops in like every location. With AT&T now i have minimum 3 bars!
i'm with you.....although it may be said that having an unlock phone is advantageous to going to another carrier, i don't see that advantage.
in the end it will cost a verizon customer between 40-60 a month which is what it costs me....maybe the 20 dollar difference isn't a big deal for me but for someone else may mean the world - so my apologies for my assumptions...
For the few of us that travel overseas for a living, having an unlocked phone would allow me to use a foreign sim card with data and instead of paying $20 per mg, I could get unlimited. International rates are unreal with att, on my Blackberry I get unlimited international connect for $60 a month, if I used my iPhone like I do the BB it would cost me over a grand a month.
If iPhone became 100% unlocked then you could do this.....The OP is referring to a method that makes this much more difficult, forcing you to basically use a single carrier of your choice.....the legality of this method is still unclear as well.
