iPod Speaker Distortion Unless EQ on Bass Reducer

I have been listening to the iPod and have found that listening to music with the speaker volume all the way up is impossible, all I get is distortion from the bass. When I put the EQ on Bass Reducer than the music sounds amazing from the speakers. The only problem is that having the EQ turned on uses more battery life according to Apple: http://www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/

Does anyone else have this problem?

yes same here. I just started to use the bass reducer a few days ago.
works great.

Agreed. I've found that this is the only setting that I can use to get the speaker to sound good. I use rock setting when the headphones are plugged in.
