I concur with petalmom. As a former Treo (several models) and 8125 (HTC Wizard) user, even with it's "limitations", the iPhone is the best all around device I've used to date.

Any word yet as to whether your version will have 3G?

The good news is with Apples announcements of EU partners for the device, they appear on schedule for a release sometime before the end of the year. Time will tell...

no news whether its 3G or not, no news on what network has got the contract. It has not even been announced if there will be a contract or if it will be pay as you go...

There are companys selling them sim free that you can pre order now but it has not been annouced how the network will be set up

I was a huge hater of this phone for the longest time. I've had a blackberry and a treo, and the iPhone is by far the best phone I've ever had. My only beef with this phone is that you can't set your songs as ringtones without third party apps.

I'm very pleased with the device. It's doing exactly what I want (after modding) and the battery life has actually exceeded my expectations.

Yes, it is worth it...

But, you will be a better judge of that. If you are a big iPod fan, the iPhone will definitely eliminate the need for an iPod and a phone. It is the best phone I've ever had. The downside is that it is not 3G and there is no MMS. However, a workaround is available.

I agree with that. I have an older iPod in my car connected to the stereo, but my video iPod has been completely neglected for 2 months. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it.

I am ashamed to say I don't own an ipod, I just love nice phones and different phones that every second person wont have...

I am not very computer literate, when it comes to downloading software and that, is it hard to figure out - like i read that to get the photo of some one up on your screen when they are calling you you have to sinc your contacts from your computer...? can any one advise me?

and also what is 'safari' on the iPhone?

I don't even own one (yet) and I will say YES!

And "safari" is the internet browser on the iPhone. =)

Not without 3G. Seriously, totally pointless as an Internet browser on EDGE.
Not exactly true. Somehow, it always seems to pick on a wifi signal nearby. Went to my favorite Sushi place the other day and the iPhone picked up on the MySushi wifi signal. Locked. Asked the waitress "what's your password?". It was their phone number. It wasn't the first time. People have no problem giving their password if you ask for it.
Also point your iPhone safari to: jwire (doesn't work on computer)
and it will give you 188,231 wifi hotspots (including all the free ones) in the world.

I wasn't planning on buying this phone until the price dropped a bit, but I got one as a gift and let me just say that if I would have gotten my hands on one before owning one, I would have bought it.

I wanted the iPhone simply because I needed a new phone, and wanted an iPod. So I figured I'd just buy the iPhone. The applications have given me no problems since I got the phone, the reception is great, and I'm able to be heard, and hear crystal clear. I would most definantly say yes to buying this phone.
