Thanks to all in this thread who offered the OP insight based upon their user experience. Everyone should have a voice here at EIP, as long as they abide by the very basic rules. Intelligent discussion is a great read and differences are to be expected. No one has made a perfect phone just yet. We're all coming to the iPhone from previous phones and all have different expectations based upon that experience.

All in all, I like the way this thread has turned out. After a day of complete turmoil on these boards, let's just say it's refreshing for me to see what's happened here.

Sorry to Off Topic. Please continue your regularly scheduled discussion.

-Chris

p.s. - and no I don't hate my iPhone, but there are some things I'd change. Nothing a software update cannot fix.

coming from a treo 700w that crashed, freeze, or lose memory even when nothing is open. I fine the iPhone to be a nice thin reliable update.

I would have to agree with almost everyone on this thread. I know that there is an "adaptation" curve. Im ok with that. I know that its not supposed to be a businesss solution. Fine. however, two weeks of daily use is plenty of time for adaptation and i find myself in the car trying to look up a number and spending way to much time to do one little thing. It was never an issue with the treo, but sometimes its a little scary in the car trying to look up a contact. And after those poor kids were killed because of the possibility that the driver was texting makes me more conscious of the efficiency of this phone.

I most certainly hope that the updates will fix some of these problems. But i still want to vent a little with what we have now and may have for sometime until the update(s) roll around which who knows when that will be.

i do love the phone. but not always.

i love mine, but it fits how i use it pretty well.

that said, i think the OP has excellent points. those are some very fair criticisms of the phone (and aren't generic bashing). as much as i suppose i am in the fanboy camp (owning numerous macs, an ipod, iPhone, airport express, and other Apple gear), i look to software updates to fix some issues.

for me, the best part of this, with respect to complaints, is that all of the ones i have could (and are likely to) be fixed via software.

so i'm given to looking for software updates a lot recently. my continued optimism around the phone lies in the idea that Apple is already working on these issues and that future software updates will make this into the phone truly worthy of all the hype.

I KNEW I was giving up a lot of stuff, but copy and paste? I found this out the first night, and I was like "what the hell? Apple is better than this" So I hold out for the next update.
Do current businesss phones have the cut and paste function?

I agree, yes i love my iPhone (best phone i ever had), yes it has some areas that need improvement but to compare it to a treo is crazy. I had a 750 with At&t well two actually the first one would freeze and hangup or not hangup at least 7 times a day. Yes the treo has a bunch of features but it sucks at all of them...being a phone being to main area.

I gotta say that next to the iPhone, my Treo is was a tight runner up. I NEVER had any freezes with phone... I guess I am in the minority on that one though....

I like the iPhone b/c it's cool, and the potential is enormous... now let's realize some of that, via updates... :D

Really man i am seriously not trying to just bash the treo, i really wanted to like it but that thing crashed all the time for me. It would just hang up on people.Completely freeze(requiring me to take out the battery) Everyone i talked to said they sold theres do to the same thing. It was a lot harder to navigate through than the iPhone also, but it did have/ could do a lot of stuff. The iPhone does a lot less but it does it so much smoother..to me at least

Man, it's all good. I just remembered this though...

It seems my Treo was spamming friends of mine w/advertisements for eBay and Moto phones... happened like 3 days before I got my iPhone... Maybe it knew I was going to trade it in.... :D

Edit: Spamming via texting w/o showing the texts in the "sent" folder... happened to guy who was sharing my office... WHILE I was in there...

I like the way he so called secretary sends him directions in text LOL, not email text! so he has to write it down with pen and paper, hey pal it seems to me that you just found the things the phone doesn't do, and then made up imaginary situations where these missing features hindered your every day life.
And that is just SAD!

If you really think about it, the iPhone does lack many simple features that free phones do right out of the box.

I don't understand all the hate, but I can understand the bickering over Apple to give a software update. They knew the phone lacked many features upon the launch date but they released it to the masses because they've said all along it was to come out in June. Well, its about time the first update came. I hope Apple is listening because day by day I see people getting more tired of the phone for the lack of SIMPLE features.

I've gone to the Apple Store three times since the launch date and after spending about 15 minutes in the store, I saw at least three returns per visit.

I have to say that the iPhone has been very reliable for me. In three weeks I had one time where it seemed to freeze. In retrospect I think it was stuck waiting on a network connection and that in time it would have been OK, but I reset it to be safe. I've had a few crashes in Safari, but they seemed to have gone away after I emptied the cache and history. I've had one crash in the iPod player.

By comparison I've had lots of freezes and issues with other smartphones. The iPhone has been way more stable than the others. For the poster who liked their Treo 700w, great if it works for you. I had one and it was one of the biggest pieces of junk I've ever owned. I've had almost all models of the Treo and the iPhone has been far more stable than any of them.

And as far as syncing with my Mac, there has been no comparison. So I don't hate the iPhone at all, far from it.

Are you suggesting that i don't own an iPhone? You must be kidding me...
Of course you don't own an iPhone, that's the only reason you could have anything bad to say about it!

;)

I for one am with you on these complaints. Did you mention the extreme difficulty of doing anything with it if both your hands weren't free?

I don't think I own the phone, it owns me too... It's a partnership (at best). That's why I still have it.

ok, Mr. NYDMX

"Dear, all clients, employees, and friends, a smart guy on the internet named NYDMX suggested that I write you this letter. Please be aware that I am the owner of the new iPhone, thereforee i must tell you, that if you ever need to send me any information that I may have to forward to another employee, client etc do not send it via text. You must send it via email. I know some of you don't have my email address, i also am aware that many of you have normal phones that don't have email capabilities but thats irrelevant according to NYDMX. He is very smart... he says so. Again, only email DO NOT SEND A TEXT i have a new iPhone, please understand."

ps. Dear Mrs. "so called" secretary, could you please be sure that I have some paper and a pen in the car, because the message above is was refused by the server..."
