"In regards to 3G support versus Edge, in the US (and I know you don't really care about the US) Edge availability is more widespread, so even though 3G is available, I believe that Edge was a smart choice. As there would have been a ton of whineing from people that weren't in 3G locations about the inability to use the best features of the phone. Now the UK as you present is a different market. It's entirely possible that Apple could release the product with 3G versus Edge. That would make it better for your market."

Phones today don't just offer 3g or edge. The offer both so that when you are not in a 3g coverage area, the phone drops to the slower edge automatically.

And 3G uses more power than EDGE (GSM) so would require either a larger battery, or significantly shorter battery life - something I'm sure iMoaners would love to post on and on and on about... LOL

The only "updates" that are suppose to come out have been fabricated by the hopes of iPhone owners-there has been no official release yet.
Every iPod released has had new features via updates; ditto that with the Apple TV and, of course, Mac OS X. Speaking of the OS, does nobody remember Mac OS X 10.0? A few months later, they released a free update 10.1 that actually made OS X usable on a daily basis. This is typical Apple—get the product out there, get feedback, improve it. Apple's accounting department has mentioned the iPhone is on a 2-year "subscription-based" model, which always indicates updates.

There will be updates—but I think a lot of people will be disappointed with the first couple rounds of updates. It usually takes Apple a couple iterations to set things straight.

While Steve Jobs has a great vision, he's not perfect and he knows it. There's something things I know they will improve based on customer feedback. That's the difference between Apple and other companies (typically Microsoft)—Apple listens to their customers.

Best Phone Yet

I have had a cell phone since 1985... MANY different phones and carriers. We switched to Cingular over two years ago because of the GSM network. Phone works well in most of the world partiality Europe since we travel there for both businesss and pleasure. The BIG US carriers at that time did not support GSM and while traveling had to rent a phone and forward my cell number to rented phone to keep in touch with US. Verizon was the last carrier used before making the switch to Cingular. I live in the biggest city in the south between New York and Atlanta and the drop calls here was atrocious and many popular beaches in South Carolina could not get coverage. With Cingular I have traveled to most of the European countries and the calls between there and my office are unbelievably clear. In my home city have NEVER had a dropped call or if I did do not remember. As far as the iPhone goes... BEST EVER... more than I expected. ANSWER..... Personal preference based on service. Maybe some areas are better served my Verizon or T-Mobile. In my city T-Mobile does not exist... If A.T.&T. is not a good provider then you should not have purchased the iPhone. It's like crying to the government because you can not buy a Mercedes at the Hyundai dealer. GROW UP... maybe one of these other carriers will carry a phone to knock off the iPhone.

I suggest you all go start your own thread. Call it everyingiPhoneaslongasitspositive.com. Moderate the heck out of it so that a negative word is never posted on the iPhone. You can all keep posting about how every feature is the greatest. Possible threads would be;

1) Extra battery? Who needs it!
2) 3G? Whats your rush, stop and smell the roses
3) Strange headphone port-I love it!
4) Navitgating between apps, the more clicks the better!

It would be great!;)
You guys on the negitive fence could do the same thing you know?

Seriously, I don't think the majority of the people here are trying to discourage negative comments. It's just that the naysayers are beating a dead horse in the things that you are all bitching about. Look at your list. Everything on there, short of MAYBE the navigation issue you have, is a hardware issue that you can do NOTHING about on this device. How many times do we need to hear about the lack of 3G? Or the non-removable battery? We effin get it already. What the hell do you expect anyone to do about it now? If you want influence the next iPhone device then contact Apple and express your opinions. However, my guess it that they already know about the major complaints. More than that, do you think that any of us here don't already know the shortcomings?

Most of the people here want to discuss what we can do with what we've got. Not harp on what we don't. All the ***** posts are simply unproductive and completely useless. You aren't going to convince any of us that like the iPhone to stop using it. If we didn't care for it, we are all smart enough to have returned it within the return period. (Something some of the haters weren't smart enough to do apparently)

Seriously dude, I'm not the one posting negativity on an iPhone forum, and doing nothing but flog a dead horse about 3G or the lack of it.

Your history of negative posts speaks for itself - you have an unhealthy fixation with 3G.
Unhealthy as in mentioned in three topics which were all relevant? Yeah... OK. You may also have noted that I praise the iPhone in my posts, just not blindly like... well... you.

Once again: I see this as an essential feature for the European market. So do the analysts.

Sorry the facts didn't agree with you, and the the graphic from Voda caused such consternation.
That would be the one which showed the 3G sites clustered around the major population centres and arterial routes which agreed with my post and proved you don't have a clue what you're talking about wouldn't it?

As opposed to your 'facts' that 3G coverage is patchy in Europe - it isn't - and that the UK has extensive wi-fi coverage based on a trial project in one minor city.

This earns you a Golden LOL award.

Maybe if you ever:

a) get to use an iPhone
Will do next time I'm in the States or if it comes over here first.

b) get to travel between the UK and US

you'll achieve a clearer perspective.
Sorry, Chief. My travel is in Europe and soon to be India. Apparently we have trade blocks there too. Perhaps you can tell me what transatlantic travel actually has to do with carrier reception though? Please do, I'm intrigued.

You're trying to argue with someone who has an iPhone, and who uses both the UK and US Cell networks - but you still want to argue anyway.
No, I'm pointing out that I see the lack of functionality and why I think this will be a handicap to its success in the Euro market, a market I know more about than you do apparently.

But feel free to make erroneous assumptions as you seem to have a natural talent for them.

The iPhone switches to wi-fi from EDGE automatically does it not? I believe wi-fi will also hammer your battery.

Just thought I'd point that out although the battery life on the iPhone is clearly superior to most other cell phones.

I don't profess to be an expert on the european wireless market; so I don't know what sort of phones you have to compare it to. Though there seem to be two issues, one the hardware and two the network that you seem most concerned about. If the hardware will do what you want it to, then of course, the decision to switch is easy. If not, you might be best served with staying with your present phone.
Spot on with your assessment. At present the hardware doesn't meet my needs and I would not swap my current unit for an iPhone.

In regards to 3G support versus Edge, in the US (and I know you don't really care about the US) Edge availability is more widespread, so even though 3G is available, I believe that Edge was a smart choice. As there would have been a ton of whineing from people that weren't in 3G locations about the inability to use the best features of the phone.
Agree. I've actually mentioned that I think was this was the right choice in other topics.

Now the UK as you present is a different market. It's entirely possible that Apple could release the product with 3G versus Edge. That would make it better for your market.
Exactly. That's pretty much what I've been driving at all along.

All in all, I still believe that the iPhone is the defining cellphone, maybe not of a generation, that's a long time, but it is a work of art in so many ways even considering some of it's faults that people have with it. I hope that your wait will be rewarded with an iPhone that does have 3G. Good luck.
Thanks, me too! I really hope that Apple take all the feedback that I and others have put to them and make the Euro iPhone something to truly celebrate.

I gotta say...

At first, great thread, valid points. Then what the hell? Willio... has got to be a troll. While I agree with some of his points, and I have made my position clear, I take the stance that you (Willio) are a troll. If not, I apologize. Quote somebody, answer back to someone, not just post random disconnected thoughts....

Actually - you get better battery life when using wi-fi than EDGE.

GSM or 3G transmissions take way more power than a local wi-fi signal.

Sleeper - I just realized why you need 3G on your iPhone.

You're posts are soooo long, you need the high speed connection just to be able to read your posts.

If anyone needs 3G, you do.

No, really!

firstly, why the hell cant i post some random thoughts? Jeez. I have an iPhone and it makes me crazy sometimes. And if you can see by the number of people who are reading and posting on this troll generated thread you will see that i am not the only one.

I am just a guy with a phone. I do not have an agenda and frankly i just wanted to see if anyone else agreed with me.

So branch out - go help some people in the software forum, or help someone out with their iTunes, or maybe solve a sync issue for a new user, or fix someone's wi-fi problem...

Spread some positive energy in the forum - don't just limit yourself to this one iMoaner post.

yes, branch out then... Why only this post? I lurk as much as the next guy, but there has to be ONE post in this forum that you as an iPhone user can help somebody with...

I mean you found the GLARING flaws, what about some things you like - ::GASP:: - about the phone. No need to jump at me dude, I supported your ideas until I thought you were trollin'.

I'm sorry if they exceed your limited attention span. Still, with wi-fi they should load instantaneously. If you had regular on the move access to it that is. :)

Finally, I'll take your lack of salient points as an admission that you know you're wrong and have nothing of value to say.

Thanks. It was fun.

yeah...

the name of the thing is iPhone. youd think the phone portion of it would be its strong suit...and the battery, whats that about, mine drains within 4hours after being charged all night..it sucks and tomorrow im taking it back, and ill wait for the lg, hopefully its touchscreen will be a lot better, and i hear it has a removeable battery and memory...they really didn't think this through and maybe they should have kept manufacturing in the u.s. instead of china...dang! I hate to admit it, but i was sooo wrong about this, so yeah i regret it...

Firstly - congrats on bringing things down to the level of personal insults - class move.

Secondly - I learned long ago that arguing with forum posters who exhibit your characteristics was pointless - you argue mute points, ignore rational arguments, and always have to have the last word.

I even predict that you'll respond to this post, just to get the last word - you can't resist it.

Sync is really pissin me off. I hate having to have everything on my iPhone being backed up on my comp. It sucks since I have about 6 gigs of video that has to stay on my iTunes or else it will delete it off my iPhone the next time I synce it for anything.

Plus iTunes crashed on me while syncing photos, and when it crashed, it deleted all my photos that I took after I Last synced my photos to iPhoto. So I pretty much lost around 40 pictures that I took on my 2 yr old niece's birthday.

That's really the only I hate about it.
