iTunes to iPhone 4s/iPad 2 sync issues

Searched the web for this and could not find any answers. Hopefully someone here has run into and fixed this.

I currently sync my iPhone 4s and iPad 2 to a computer which has iTunes on it, but the music and iTunes library is on an external harddrive. This should work fine.

Each time i sync the phone a random 50-100 songs resync on it? Anyone have any ideas why this is happeneing? I am not changing those songs at all.

That does sound a little strange. Have you been listening to those particular songs on your iPad or iPhone? They may just be syncing play counts or ratings?

No but after a few times taking a look i see it is actually the same songs each time. It does it for both the iPad and iPhone. However the ipad finishes syncing. The iPhone never does and hangs at "waiting for items to copy"
